How Do You Decide How Big Your Quilt is Going to Be?

Most of the time they are planned. Pattern tells me what size they'll be. Unless I fall in love with a larger pattern, most of mine are no larger than about 64" a side. Larger than that is hard to quilt in my machine. I prefer rectangular rather than square, though, so a lot end up approximately 48-50 X 60-64.

My... many K size quilts have spoken....NO more K size! House is small,only so much closet/storage space & it's full.Only sofa throws from now on.Less fabric needed, no LA quilter needed & have a ton of stash to use up....so works for me.

Every bed quilt that I make has a bed in mind before I start. I currently have a top pieced and waiting to be quilting (it's #2 in line). DD isn't a traditionalist girl so I let her pick the pattern and she liked bargellos. Then I went through my book and found a pattern that will fit her bed 98x96, then I began the long process of finding fabrics. I ramble...lol...but I guess I am trying to say that I don't make random quilts....everything is planned out. Since I give mine away I want to make sure that the recipient does indeed like quilts and where it will be used.

I want to get the most use from quilts so I make them queen size . I know they can be used on a standard bed, queen or a couch throw.
When they are passed down they will continue to be used.When I spend 6 months or more making a quilt this helps me justify the time knowing they will be appreciated.
