How Many Machines Do You Have/Use?
#31
I have a Treadle, A Featherweight, A Serger, A Kenmore that received when graduated in 1981, A Viking Ruby, A Viking 400, A Vintage Singer (that need to figure date on though got it in '87), another Newer Kenmore, and then inherited a Kenmore that is similar to the I received in 81, and also inherited a Newer Brother. Oh and last but not least an APQS Longarm. I have used all of them except the brother and the Vintage Singer I haven't used lately. I guess that puts it at 12 but am NOT a collector...LOL....

I have three machines set up at all times. My Juki TL98Q that I use most of the time, my Janome 6500 that I use for any fancy stitches and my vintage 201 Singer with the buttonholer attached. Then I also have a Husqvarna #1+ that I can do embroidery with, a Husqvarna Prelude 350 that I take to class, a 530 Bernina (mint condition), my Bernina 830 Record that I bought new, a Singer 457 that I loan out to friends, a small Omega (a gift) another loaner if needed, a Singer 301, a Singer 128 treadle, a Singer 127 handcrank and six Featherweights. I guess that makes 18 machines but only 17 are in my house this minute. I love my machines and the only one that I am on the look out for is a Singer 222.

The machines I use on a regular basis are my Berina 440 workhorse, a Singer 221 Featherweight that I like to take to classes and traveling, a Sweet 16 sit-down quilter, a Bernina serger, and a Happy Voyager 16 needle embroidery machine. I also have two Singer 201s (one handcrank, one in an unusual treadle/electric combo cabinet), a number of Singer 66 and 99 machines (most in treadle but one handcrank), another Singer 221 that I really should find a good home for, and at least three Singer spindle bobbin machines. I also have my grandmother's White Family Rotary plus another White. I really do need to start getting rid of some of them, but they are just so satisfying to see. They are in workable condition, just needing some oil before I would start them up again. All of them have been sewn on a little, just to make sure they worked.
I did have the joy of selling one Singer 99 handcrank to the grandmother of an 8 year old who loves it! The young lady has made pillows, stuffed animals, and skirts for herself. Her GM sends me pictures of the completed project and the smiling girl - pretty wonderful!

I have a Singer 66-6, a FW, a newer singer that I use everyday, a Singer embroidery machine that I quilt on since it has a bigger harp, and an old Sewmor that looks like a Singer 301a, with the hinged bed. I need to have this one repaired so I can use it. I take the FW to classes, and I'm saving the 66 for when my computerized singer dies. I'm on the look out for a real 301a. I don't have room for any more.

Oh Gosh! 27!
Singer: 15-91 (2), 66-16, 99-13, 99K, 185J, 192, 221, 237, 401A (2),500A, 503A, 600, 646, 920, 2010
Kenmore: 158.1815, 385.15718, 385.17724, 385.17928, 385.19233, 385.19606
Brother: 8015, XL-3010
Viking: 400
15-Clone: Homestead
That's not counting 3 sergers! or about 10-12 that have been passed on to other people. Only 2 are still undergoing renovation, the rest work great and have attachments and accessories. I try to use them all once in awhile.

I've got my main machine, a Babylock Crescendo, a Brother 950 that is used mostly when I have a friend over to sew with, or if I want to fool around with a little embroidery or need a travel machine, and a Babylock serger that deserves to come out and play more than it does. I also have a Bernina 1120 that I've had for years that I will get out from time to time. I look all the time on Craigslist and estate sales for sewing machines - I have no idea why, as I do not need, nor have the space for more.

I have 4 and use 3 of them regularly. A Husquavarna (Sp?) that I use for everything, a Brother 1300 that is great for piecing and goes on my quilting frame, a Babylock Imagine serger which I LOVE because I've gotten into sewing costumes for Renaissance Fairs, and my Singer 99, dated 1936, which I'm still getting familiar with. Have thought about getting an embroidery machine, but haven't talked myself into it yet.

[QUOTE=Skylark53;6783797]I found a really old thread on this from 2011 so I thought it was time for an update! Family members, in particular my father, are having trouble believing that many people that aren't professional quilters have more than 1 or 2 machines. I insist (while on the verge of buying my third antique machine) that plenty of quilters/sewers have numerous machines! I understand that those that collect antique machines are likely to have more so I want to hear from those with more recent/new machines as well! Of the ones you have, how many do you use?
I have 2 right now (listed in signature). The FW I use a lot, the Kenmore more for finishing larger projects. But as I take on more things, I'll probably be bouncing between them more evenly because I'll have them calibrated for specific tasks.
For me, I'm finding that collecting machines is becoming a hobby within a hobby.[/QUOTE
Like you I also have Featherweights, actually 2, a white 1950s model Featherweight, and a Kenmore similar to yours. I use these for all my work don't really need or want more.
