I had the same problem. I went right away to the store and got a new cutter and mat! And we've both been happy since.

Mine never really puts his tools away, so I wind up doing that. When I am not around to tell him where they are he knows where mine are, because I always out them back in the same spot, my sewing room.

I actually bought a ruler and cutter for my son's company. He was watching me cut fabric and siad the plans his firm deals with are too large for their paper cutter so they had been using an exacto and metal edge. he was so impressed that the boss went out and bought several more.
So often it is the other way around -- we are going to the hardware store for stuff for us.

You can imagine the expletives I use when I can't find a tool where I last put it. If I make enough noise about it, it magically shows up later. Yes, I use his tools, too, but I always put them back from where I got them.

My hubby would use stuff from my kitchen to use on the car and in his garage. If it came back at all it was either full of oil, grease or broken! Still loved the man.

Since I seem to take chunks out of wooden yard sticks I noted my husband's metal yard stick hanging on the wall.
Wow that has become an important tool in m y quilting world. As for hubby he died 21 years ago, but he always bought good tools. thank you Ed

"Yes, they have their tools...but can't find them as easily as we quilters. We seem to have a place for our tools so we don't have to look for them. I actually have favorite screw drivers, etc hidden so my husband can't find them and get them greasy. Once he takes a tool, either I find it somewhere with grease or oil on it, or never see it again. Just easier to keep them safely tucked away."

    Exactly what you said!!

Heck - in our house if it can be used for something it is fair game- we both cross use items. The one that really threw me was the morning I woke up only to find my husband had been up all night trying to edo the kitchen sink plumbing fro scratch without any knowledge- he was using the extra fine bladed tomato knife my mother had bought me for cutting pvc- amazingly it still cuts tomaots after all these years

Ain't that the truth. Too bad you didn't get a photo of him. My hubby used to get into the fabric and cut pieces out of it to make "his" quilts with. I had to give him a sewing machine to keep him off my Viking. He found out about the scissors the hard way! He had to sharpen them. Don't miss him around getting into my tools and things. It is nice to find what I want when I want it. Good luck with hubby.
