JoAnn's first for me!

I figure that any trip to JoAnn with coupons is a good way to exercise our brains to try to figure out what we can use our coupons on that isn't on sale! It's like a game or a puzzle that will keep us young. I usually have a "list" of stuff I can use but am not desperate for and wait to "pounce" when they haven't used that sneaky "10% off" tactic on something good. They've got some clever marketing people who are good at giving us old biddies a challenge -- but we're up for it!

I can't begin to tell you how many times I have gone to our local Joanns only to come out empty handed. What I want is usually already ON SALE but what I find MOST disturbing is their fabric has just gotten plain UGLY! A few days ago I was in looking for backing for a SCRAPPY (you'd think I could something to go with SCRAPPY, right?) charity quilt. Most of the fabric was what I would call (back in the 60's) MOD. These bold florals with lots of bright colors are just not for me.... Plus they have a whole wall of solid colors.... I like lots of texture in my fabrics so solid do not do it for ME!! I usually end up buying my spray glue w/50% cause they never put THAT on sale.... I too, end up passing out my coupons to other customers. I always ask that if they can't use to pass them on before they leave the store. Wish I could hand out my IPHONE coupons.... OH WELL! Coupons DO get us in the door!! I just find I haven't bought anything there in a long time...... plus the store is a mess!!! I do like the manager and the clerks are friendly. But that doesn't put a backing on my quilt!! lol !!!

I did that too a couple days ago -- needed batting and stabilizer and used my 50% on the batting and 40% on stablizer. Of course, couldn't leave without buying at least a little fabric which was 30% off. Cha-Ching!! Love when that happens.

I was in JoAnn's two days ago. The parking lot was loaded when we got there, I leisurely did my shopping... and when I got up to the check out line, there were more than 10 people in line with only 2 clerks. I left my cart by the side. I figured they had a enough time to figure out they were busy and to get enough people to check customers out in a timely fashion. I am not that desperate!

I feel the same way about Michael's. Had to beg for someone to help me find what I wanted, then had to go to checkout and wait another 10 minutes. I think "big box" stores can afford to hire more help!

I, too, have to be on my toes with the Joann's coupon game. However, I realize that is a corporate issue, and I imagine that the local staff finds it challenging also.
The clerks in my store are super friendly and accommodating. They put up with cutting my big fleece orders when it is on sale even when their scissors hands are tired. Yesterday one of the assistant managers went to the back and unpacked a box of merchandise, so that I could have a large empty box to mail quilts and supplies to my mom. I appreciate that kind of service, and he did it with a smile!

I second that sentiment!
I don't go to Joann's very often as it is about a 60 mile drive for me. So often what I want is on sale for 10% or 20% off and the good coupons aren't able to be used. If we are headed over that way I will stop in and shop; otherwise I check things out online and just wait.
