Sorry, but I won't shop Wallyworld's fabric dept. Too many bad experiences. Their fabric is mostly poor quality. I shop at a quilt shop 50 minutes away from me. It's independent and the owners act like they like their customers. I'm helping keep them in business at a time others are closing down. The Big W will survive without me & my business. I put a lot of work into my quilts and deserve the good fabric, etc., of a LQS.

i went to wal-mart and was told that they were getting rid of the fabric at the super centers but would keep the fabrics at the regular wal-marts.

I don't like Wal-Mart either, but I'm sad for those who can't afford quilt shop prices.

The Walmart in my area has no bolts of material. Only pre-packaged cotton and polyester solids and some fat quarters and packaged kits. It's terrible. I have to travel 1 or 2 hrs to get to a quilt shop. So when I travel anywhere, I find the local quilt shop and buy material. Have no idea what I will make with it, but 'someday'.

I use to work at Wal-Mart. I had asked the store manager why some stores do and do not have fabric. The answer was, that each area is different and in some areas, the amount of space used for this department is wasted. The store I worked at was a newer/smaller store. We did not have a full fabric department, just a section that had some quilt supplies and fat quarters. In my area, there are 6 stores, approximately 10 - 15 miles apart. Only 1 still has an actual fabric department and when that store is eventually remodeled, it will be fazed out.

Real disappointing because I usually buy all my fabric at Wal-Mart, fairly good quality for a very fair price.

Our WalMart is remodling and also closing it's fabric department, they have very little left and it's all 50% off, I bought a few pieces this past weekend, but the selection is very limited, but soon to be all gone.

our walmart fabric dept is definetly closing. there fabric is down to 75% : off. They did tell me they will be carrying flat-folds of fabric, but will not be cutting fabric anymore.

Great loss for our sewing community in Delaware :{

My Publix store in Florida is opening a brand new store tomorrow with all the bells and whistles. One reason I went to WM was for prescriptions. I really don't care for WM's food dept. I have shopped Publix since moving to FL years ago. My DH was also a supplier to them and I learned a lot about their policies, where produce comes from and was able to visit their whole layout in Lakeland. I trust the company. Since the new store will have a prescription dept., I will not have to go to WM.

I also used to buy many plants and garden stuff but that dept. is now downsized. Used to be able to buy little starter plants for less than a buck. Now all they seem to carry are the big ones at $4 and up.

My store has taken all the stand alone displays out of the middle of the big aisles. Said it was for safety reasons. Uh Huh!
