You're not alone. I take my backing, backing and pieced top (flimsy) to my LAer. He sandwiches it, quilts it, trims it, calls me, and I give him a check. He doesn't charge extra for all that. Some folks might think I'm cheating, but this way it gets the quilt done. Binding is something I enjoy, so it comes home and gets DONE! :-)

When I first started quilting, I told myself that all the steps that goes with quilting is nice to do. So I don't freak out if I have to rip a ton of stuff out or make a sandwich. As someone said, attitude is everything.

Sometimes I like sandwiching and sometimes I don't. I don't use the floor (too old and unlimber) and I don't spray baste (hate the residue in the air). I use a double bed for smaller pieces, with old cutting boards underneath, and pin baste. When the quilt is bigger, I either take it to a long arm quilter, quilt it in sections (a la Marti Michell), or use the large table at our local library or historical building. It's a mood thing for me, and also I need to have a pretty clear idea of how I would like the item quilted. If I'm not sure what I want, I set it aside until I have an idea.
