judy martin does have a really good log cabin book out & she did put out a ruler to go with it- but it is certainly not required- any ruler that you can cut strips with will work just fine....there are no tricks or special tools needed to make a log cabin block/quilt

Just finished my Grandson's log cabin quilt - did not use a special ruler - used 1 1/2 " strips and did not cut them to length of side before stitching. My cats are always in the sewing room and having strips laying out in a specific layout wouldn't last long at my house.

I, too, only used my 6.5 x 24 ruler. Did (I think) 1.5" strips and strip pieced. While the quilt turned out exactly as I wanted, I got very bored with the repetition of the log cabin block. Don't think I'll do another.

I've seen the log cabin GO die online and scratch my head....how does it work? what size are the squares and don't you want different fabrics?
I use the log cabin die for the Go now. I have Shar Jorgensens' acrylic log cabin templates I bought years ago. http://www.qheartland.com/pd_heartland.cfm I won two sizes of Creative Grids log cabin trim tool ruler and a Marti Mitchell's log cabin ruler from blog give aways. I've never used those.
