Log cabins rulers - which is the one you use?
I want to make a log cabin (scrappy) quilt and know there are specific rulers out there for cutting. What would be a good ruler to purchase?

The very BEST directions I've ever seen anywhere are from Jan in VA. Her posting is found here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...t216277-2.html

I use the log cabin die for the Go now. I have Shar Jorgensens' acrylic log cabin templates I bought years ago. http://www.qheartland.com/pd_heartland.cfm I won two sizes of Creative Grids log cabin trim tool ruler and a Marti Mitchell's log cabin ruler from blog give aways. I've never used those.

One of the groups I am with did a log cabin type quilt top. We were encouraged strongly to buy a log cabin ruler. Some of my friends and I looked at it and decided not to. We just used our regular rulers and all or our quilts tops were great!
There are some limitations to those rulers. They are lined for only certain sizes. With your own ruler you can change your mind an use whatever size you want.

Great question! I tend to agree with the quilters that just use the regular strip piecing method, but as you probably know, for every type of quilt block someone invents a tool...
Some I've seen are Marti Mitchell's Log Cabin Rulers, and more recently The Log Cabin Trim Tool by Creative Grids. Both of these are companion tools to a book but i guess you could use them alone too.
