This would be a super easy project & a good way to use some smaller pieces of fabric that is left over from other quilts..

I think I'm going to make it a cuddle size quilt with blue and green batiks and for the quilting - a star/sunburst explosion (think straight lines coming out from a small circle, in a sun ray type design, offset to one upper quadrant - like the sun rays shining through from behind... That's what my mind's eye saw the first time I saw one of these.

On www.craftsy.com you can sign up for free online classes called block of the month and the January class is the one where she shows you how to make a Wonky Pound Sign Block Pattern and I think it is what you are looking for. I hope this helps you.

I looked at the site you provided. The quilt looks like a 9-piece Shuffle with strips. I saw this on Sewing with Nancy. You stack nine squares of fabric. and slash them into 9 pieces. The you shuffle the pieces by taking the top piece in the first stack and putting it on the bottom, then the top 2 of the second stack and put them on the bottom. the the top three of the nest stack and put them on the bottom. You continue this until the last stack and you leave it as is. Now you should have nine different layers. You sew each layer back together to get nine different blocks. It looks like someone as added narrow strips between the pieces to get the shattered look. I have attached a pic of a nine piece shuffle. Good luck.

It's a Slash-The-Stash technique.

The easiest way to get them to be all slashed in the same place .... stack them up into one pile. Or if too many fabrics, then two piles, etc.

At the end you will need to square them all up, as they may have gotten slightly off-sized or off-square with all the slashing, piecing and stitching.

QuiltE is right on. I do have a pattern from an old magazine , and if you'll pm me with your e-mail, I'll be happy to send it to you. I've done several, and depending on your choice of fabrics, it can look like stained glass. Super easy and FAST since you're making six big blocks at one time. Lots of fun.

What would happen if you chose a backing fabric, cut it into the size squares you want, and then appliqued the broken tiles to it instead, like doing a quilt as you go?
