T Shirt Quilt help
I am making my first t shirt quilt. The top is finished but I am needing help picking a fabric for backing. I would rather not use any batting and make it as light weight as possible. What is best? and where is the best place to get it?
TIA

I vote for flannel, except I do love snuggling up in fleece. Wonder how the fleece would crawl around when you go to quilting? Guess it would depend on the type of quilting method you use. Good luck!

Just remember that if you have nothing between the layers, you will have more of a challenge to get good tension. (not to scare you...just prepare you!). The stitches twist between the layers, no layers, less area to twist. How about a thin, 'airy-er' batt? It will give it a bit of poof..but not much thickness/warmth.

Since it's a t-shirt quilt, I vote for fleece, or you could use flannel in place of batting and also use flannel for the backing.
I'm also very fond of minkee.
To keep minkee, fleece or even flannel from shifting, spray baste it. There are several video's on youtube about spray basting. My favorite so far is 505 spray baste.

Did a small quilt w t shirt squares left over from a motif t shirt quilt. I used a lightweight fleece that I had and no batting or fusibles. Used lots of starch before cutting out the square, used washable glue on the seams before I sewed them, placed the top on the fleece and then top stitched the seams w fancy stitches and fused some double sided circles on the intersections and attached them with an X. Washed it before I gave it away. The fleece worked nicely did not crawl and since this was an experiment, I was pleased. It was a nice soft quilt for a person in a nursing home.
