DH can weld so he made me one that is so heavy I use it as a doorstop. The base is about 3 inches of solid metal. His version of heavy is a lot different then my version. :lol:

I swear by connecting threads! It seems to last longer than any other thread I've tried and its not as expensive.

I love Connecting Threads! I use their thread for all my piecing and do use it if I am machine quilting using my older Singer. My Bernina is a little persnickety about the lint when I try to machine quilt with it though...I do love the thread though...very reasonalby priced for really good thread!

I bought a cotton thread set from ThreadArt.com. I have used it in both my singer and my viking, no problems. At first I thought the Viking didn't like it but then I found out I needed to change the pressure foot tension when I put the walking foot on it. It worked fine after that.

Dear Quilt Crazy: I too have a Janome 6600P and am TOTALLY in love with it. It DOES NOT like Coats and Clark; neither does my Janome 350E Emb. machine.

I never pay full price for any of my thread. Please go to Google and type in sale sites for Gutterman. Next, Google Sulky, etc. This is how I get most of my thread; VERY inexpensive compared to quilt shoppes. I use rayon, some polyester and 100% cotton and varigated thread. Once you use varigated thread, you will be totally in love. I use it on my embroidery machine and you would not believe how beautiful fish, birds, etc. are. Their gills and wings just explode off of the fabric! I have a total of five Janome machines and love each and every one of them. Enjoy your machine/s. GiGi :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Our LQS has over $8 on the thread like you picked up for 11. I too think that is one little greedy someone somewhere. I too did the same thing and couldn't figure out what was costly and thought it was a mistake till I ran down the reciept....oops! That thread does look great on machine quilting:)
I too have the Janome 6600 and love mine too. I am presently making appliques on it using the blind hem stitch. You will love this machine and I still haven't had time to 'know' all there is about this machine. For I can't stop quilting enough:)I machine quilt on this too w/an open toe foot. Their book is very helpful in all the settings, etc.

guess what Gigi? the thread I mentioned?...coats and clarks. Boy, am I glad i said no. Actually I was just floored that one spool would cost that much! I am usually suspicious when there are not prices posted for products, but was in an awful hurry, anyway, just ordered 2 or 3 (?) sets of the variegated from Connecting Threads...can't wait. Wow, five Janomes, I have two now. The 6260Qc and 6600P. I thought I was a lucky girl. I just don't want to go thru the wdl when it's time for one to go in for oiling etc. and going to teach grands. I wasn't able with my own kid. I was a very busy mama at the time and they didn't seem interested. In hindsight, if I had....oh well, starting early with grand #2 and she is loving it! thanks

I have done some machine appliqueing in past, but plan to do a whole lot more, thus the variegated thread that was going to cost an appendage.
I have used blind hem stitch for hems, and your the second person I read have used it for appliques...other was last night somewhere. I am trying to picture that, but a little difficult. Is it hard to explain?
When I went in to dealer's store to try out machine, which belonged to his wife...I took my own samples and played around. Didn't change needle, thread or anything but settings. It sewed like butter on everything!...cottons, denim, satin, sandwhiches....wanted to see 'quilting effect'...I did some combination not knowing, and got a great scalloped stitching...I was sold! I also make clothes and loved that it has the....thingy that balances machine to weight of your fabric and the accufeed. Accufeed is what made me go with 6600 instead of 6500. I figured, it might be last machine I ever get, so go with the features you really want.
anyway, too early to be getting so longwinded, lol, but if you can tell me how you blindstitched on edge of appliques...if not, that is ok. I will get it, eventually I hope.
When brother comes home from vacation, he is a 'puter whiz and can help me with yahoo. Not cooperating with me. thanks for all the info, you probably got more in return than you bargained for. I dreamt about my dad's side of the family last night, cause they are all great talkers! For some reason, told somebody in dream, that my g'pa was filthy rich...he has passed and didn't have a penny to leave anyone! go figure!!! LOL. :lol:

I have used Connecting threads and it is quit linty. I started using aurifil after taking a class from Nancy Chong and love it. Use nothing else now. www.pacificrim.com I use their applique thread also. good stuff

They also have Signature, size 50, 3000 yd cones in assorted colors for ~8.00. For regular sewing, I order Guterman from them also. $2.95 for 1100 yd tubes, over 600 colors available or on 5500 yd cones for ~13.00. They are very prompt with their shipping and usually send out the day you order if you get it in before noon. They are the only place I buy thread now...
