I'm a pretty lucky grandma. My grandkids like things because I make them, not because of the color.

Just finished sewing the top of a quilt for my 8 year old granddauter and she loves it. I took her to the fabric store with me and she chose the colors all pink! It was fun taking her shopping and it was great shopping trip.

How true, Kathy N---our love for our craft of quilting is not recognized by those who don't sew. I usuallly deliver what I think is the perfect gift with, "It gave me great joy to make this for you. If it isn't your taste, feel free to pass it on to someone who will enjoy it." I also make items, pack them away and then let recipients choose from the stash when a gift is in order. Sometimes I hear, "Oh, grandma, I love this, but could you make it in (color choices). It seems to work well.

What makes us different, makes us special. If everyone liked the same things, this world would be sooo boring! It's not a slam toward you or your style or color selection of colors, it was just her opinion of what she likes.....please don't take it personally! Just be glad you didn't give her something that she would not like!!! A red/black quilt can be beautiful! Good luck - you can do it!!!

I think DGD are easier please at the ages of 0 - 4, after that they seem to make up their own minds. sorry your feelings got hurt, but it would have so much worse when you handed the finished quilt to her. Now you will see smiles and get hugs for doing just the perfect quilt for her and the bonus is you get to keep this one you like for yourself. Have fun with both quilts!

Darn kids anyhow. :)
oh man, that just stinks!!! Chalk it up to her age. Someone else will adore that quilt...you just don't know who yet. I am planning a quilt for my 25 year old DIL & decided not to surprise her but let her help pick out the pattern & inspiration fabric. I thought I would do it in pinks & purples (her fave colors) but she said she wanted it for the living room & not pink & purple at all. Ya just never know do you?

OMG! I was just thinking that! I bet in years to come she will want those 'granny colors' and wonder WHAT she was thinking with black & red!!!!

I make quilts for each of my grandchildren when they graduate from high school, a twin size to use at college. I always ask them before what their favorite colors are and that is what I use. The one I am working on now is purple and lime green, as that is her favorite colors. Probably not what I would have chosen if I had not known her favorite colors.

Maybe I am a bit different for a quilter. I know that just because I like something, it may not be someone else's taste. Usually when I give a quilt, I give them an option. I tell them that if they are not crazy about the quilt, I will make them a different one and they can pick the fabrics. They will just have to wait for it until I have the time to make another one. I would rather make them one that they will love instead of having it shoved in a closet because they didn't like it that much. As a quilter, I can appreciate the time that goes into a quilt but still not love the quilt!
