I have had a Pfaff since the early '90s. and love it. Yesterday, it wouldn't start so I took it to a Pfaff dealer who told me it just needed servicing and NOT to trade it in since it will go forever. While I was there, I quickly checked out the newer Pfaffs. I have my eye on the Ambition 1.5 but will wait for a while. Check out the Pfaff website. They do a great job of listing all the features of each model and have a comparison chart for various models. Decide what you want in a machine and then find the one that meets most of those wants. Enjoy the process.

Fell in love with Pfaff in high school in the 50's. Finally able to purchase my first Pfaff in the 1980's. Sold it to my BFF in early 90's and now have my second Pfaff,a Freestyle. It is my workhorse. Hugs

I have the QE 4.0. The QE 4.2 was released a couple of months ago, so there should be some good deals just now. All of the Expression line have IDT, so no need for a walking foot.
One feature the 4 has, the others don't, is auto-pivot. This automatically raises the presser foot a little in the needle down position when you top sewing. Brilliant for machine appliqué!

icul8rg8r, do you find there is enough space to the right of the needle for queen size quilts? I know some of the other models have a larger space but usually they are more machine than I need.

I have 2 Pfaff's and I like them. There is however one reason that I will never buy another Pfaff. And that reason is, repairing them and the availability of replacement parts. I had to wait over 5 months for the parts that I required. A sewing machine dealer that I know had the same problem. Pfaff sewing machines would sit in his shop for over 6 months, waiting for the parts from Pfaff so that he could repair the sewing machine. Finally, he became so fed up he stopped being a Pfaff dealer. He now sells Babylock's because he can get the parts when something needs to be replaced. Pfaff's are good sewing machines, but if it's all but impossible to get the parts to repair them, they become interesting door stops while waiting for parts. Just thought you should know before you purchase a Pfaff.

I'll find out soon enough! Just finished piecing a queen size top for my daughter and have it layered and basted and ready to quilt. My husband is fitting my Flynn System with longer rods to accomodate larger quilts and it sure looks like it's going to work great. Hope to get started later this weekend; I'd be happy to let you know/see the results (I'll take pictures).

I have a Pfaff 7550 and a Pfaff 2144 models. I love them both. The IDT is fantastic! Fabric is stitched beautifully and the top layer stays in place and does not shift when sewing. I have not had any problems with either one of my machines.

quilter2090 - I had read about the difficulty getting Pfaff replacement parts you and others were having, so I looked into it before I purchased mine. Actually spoke to the repairman at the dealer and asked his opinion about which makes/models he liked/disliked (the dealer sold many different brands and would repair any brand). He said he personally preferred Pfaff better than ANY other brand - first, if you keep it maintained regularly, there is rarely any problem. Second, they're solid and again, if maintained, should last forever. And finally, parts were easily available. At that point I asked if there was a long wait for Pfaff parts and he said no more than any other brand. Plus my dealer will give you a loaner if it turns out to take longer than usual (they do this for any brand you purchase from them). That said, it did take forever to get the free motion foot I special ordered, but I think that's due more to the fact it's a brand new foot made specifically for the newer Ambition and Passort lines). So maybe repair parts availability depends on the dealer? I don't know, but after talking to the repairman, it solidified my decision to go with Pfaff.

I have not heard anyone on hear talk yet about the Ambition 1.5. I have been hearing about the newer Passport 2.0 that sounds like it is exactliy what I am looking for --a simple machine with IDT to use mainly for piecing. Is that also what the 1.5 is? Is it computerized or not? I would love to hear more about this machine and the price of it. I have a Dealer 1 1/2 hours away (which I have been told has the best prices in the state of MN) and I have a Dealer about 2 hours away, so I am anxious to go to these Dealers to actually try to the machines and check out their pricing.
