I have a problem with UFOs (I can't have them) so I had to put them together. There are 50 total 9P in this.

This is so nice great colors isn't it amazing what can be done with a 9 patch!

Suse 06-27-2010 09:54 PM

Wow, all your 9 patches look great! I got side tracked and started making blocks with all of my strings because I couldn't find any that looked good together. lol. Maybe I need to cut more strings. 8-)

My nine patches are Christmas fabric and really scrappy. Don't have a clue how I'll put them together. I am making 3 sizes, 9" nine patch, 6" nine patch and 3" nine patch. Somehow they'll all play nice sometime. Here's pictures of some of my 6" patches and 3" patches.

CraftsByRobin 06-28-2010 05:39 PM

I completed 7 more 9-patches ... this week is done ... :D

Dagny 06-28-2010 06:27 PM

Judy, they look like Christmas presents all lined up. Great job.

Gr8Gr8 Gran Quilter 06-28-2010 06:30 PM

I have made 48 of my 9-patches. I have made 8 of them
"disappear" [as it were] Now I have to make the other 40 "disappear" then I will be ready to put my top together.
Still hoping I can get someone to take pics for me.
Fingers crossed.

oksewglad 06-28-2010 06:55 PM

The Christmas blocks look great! There have been soo many fabrics represented in all these blocks--I love it when I see some that I have used!

Thank you, CAG, that's very kind of you!

It's Bonnie Hunter's Patches n Pinwheels pattern. She got me started making 4patches using leaders and enders and I wound up with more than 300 4patches. This was a great way to use those up! Her website has the pattern and dozens of other scrappy quilt patterns for FREE>> http://quiltville.com/16pinwheels.shtml

I got a bit carried away, and put 2 extra borders on mine, so it has a raspberry colored inner border, a border of scrappy 4-patches, and an outer border of black with confetti all over it. There are over 200 different fabrics in the quilt and it's almost 100 inches square.

I make lots of quilts for Project Linus and so I have loads of novelty fabrics. We needed a new quilt for our bed and I decided to make a quilt for me the way I always try to make them for kids--by thinking about things I like, and putting those fabrics in the quilt.

Well! This quilt has flowers and stars and lots of dots. It has loads of blueberries, cherries, apples, watermelon, and chocolate. It has people I love real and imagined including President Lincoln, Harry Potter and Linus.

It was loads of fun to make, and I smile every time I look at it. It even makes it fun to make the bed, if you can believe it!

Looking good  Definately a head start for christmas, eh?

Dagny 06-29-2010 09:56 AM

Stitchinjoy, that is one cooool quilt!

roseOfsharon 06-29-2010 11:36 AM

Oh Stitchinjoy, that is the most lovely quilt. I just love all the colors and the different blocks.

oksewglad 06-29-2010 11:45 AM

Patches and Pinwheels--great scrappy. Don't you love it using the leaders and enders and have blocks instead of a thread spider!

My question exactly ...

Terryl 06-29-2010 01:37 PM

What are leaders and enders?

Dagny 06-29-2010 02:41 PM

Scraps used at the beginning and end of a pieced chain.

StitchinJoy 06-29-2010 03:14 PM

Thank you all-- that's sweet of you.

When I sew, I keep a stack of squares at the ready. I have them in pairs, a light and a dark one, right sides together.

When I finish up whatever I am sewing, I don't cut off the thread; I put one of the pairs under the machine's foot and sew a little bit of it. Then I cut the thread between that piece and my last piece. This really cuts down on the amount of thread that I waste. When you're sewing triangles it stops the machine from sucking the points into the feed dogs too.

So I have one there when I start sewing (leader) and I leave one there when I stop sewing(ender). And then I make 4patches from them. And when I get a few hundred 4patches, woohoo! Instant quilt!

Baba71 06-29-2010 05:15 PM

Wonderful idea. I will start doing that. I need all the help I can get to get more quilts done. That is a great way to get extra quilts for babies. Thanks.

GrammaNancy 06-29-2010 05:37 PM

Beautiful quilt, so colorful.

brushandthimble 06-29-2010 06:34 PM

I have 31 done, running out of the Christmas fabrics I am using, will need to purchase maybe 2 FQ, the rest came from my stash of FQ's and scraps. Waiting for my laptop to be repaired before posting pictures.

BrendaB 06-29-2010 07:17 PM

You had some good stuff in your stash! I really like the fabrics you used.

Karen 06-29-2010 09:04 PM

Today you would have to have #16 made ... if you were doing one/day.

However ... I caught up in one day on the weekend ... and then did the rest for the week in one night ...

You can always make 2 to 3 a day until you get caught up ... :D

Swan Song 06-30-2010 05:00 AM

I am going to have to play catch up also. Life has gotten in the way here. I have to work tonight and tomorrow night so I will be catching back up on Saturday I guess.

I didn't make it to the Amish Quilt Shop but found a Walmart with some nice fabric now I am in business as soon as the three grandchildren I am watching go to bed. They are 4,3,and 1...what are the chances that will happen????? Mom and Dad are away for the next six days so I am Nanny Granny..I love it!!! but not much sewing gets done when they are awake... How did I ever do it when my own were young?? I know I can quilt up a storm given half the chance.
