This is my first attempt with the D9P, I like the technique! |
I love how your D9P came out. Just finished one using only red, white and blue.
sewnsew, Can you share a picture? I am thinking of making one in those colors for a fellow going into the service. Anyone making the D9P, what size squares are you starting with? I think my 2 1/2 squares would be to small and 4 1/2 maybe to big? Thanks |

I am calling this "Chaos" for now. I know it will get organized in my mind when I can concentrate. I am thinking this might make a nice pieced border. The blocks are 4 1/2 ". At this moment I feel fortunate to have this much completed. I have enjoyed reading your posts. Everyone is doing a great job!

Now to whine some more.....the box I started working on yesterday is done...but it took hours and I have TONS of scraps to go.....I see that cleaning up after cutting a project is the sensible thing to do...which I also did today. Why didn't I learn about this years ago... OK ....onward.....these strips are all ironed and stacked very neatly by size on top of each other.....when they finally get into a storage box do I keep them nice and neat ......how do you choose from your set of strips ....do you just jumble them all up (more ironing if we do that) and pick randomly...do you box them up by color or as Bonnie does ...darks and lights??? I hate to be a pest but this project really has me in a quandry. it is overwhelming me...mostly because of the vast variety accumulated over 20 years of sewing....it will take 100's of hours to get them all sorted out.....i do hope to do a little each day but am just wondering ....is this work really worth it????....hugs to all of you and thank you each, who wrote and tried to help me. PS I thought maybe I should have done this whining (and I apologize for that) on the MAIN section.....please tell me if this is the wrong place for me to ask these questions |

As I said when we started, nine patches aren't really my thing - they're kind of boring.
Nonetheless, I've been plenty busy with them. I completed the quilt for Citizen SAM (pic 1). It has 24 nine patches, or if you count the patches within patches, 48. It's displayed sideways in the picture. Additionally, I thought this would be the ideal time to dig into the trash bag full of kids' scraps from a special service project that I was involved in to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the campus where I teach. The quilt I made out of the scraps will be donated to an auction to benefit our college. Since there was no common theme to the scraps, I made it in the tradition of the 1930's utility quilts. (pic 2) It contains 144 nine patches. I think it would make a cute picnic blanket. That's 168 nine patches since we started, so if you'll excuse me, I'm going to move on to something else now. |
168......I think you have honored your comittment to this cause. Have fun with your new project and we will be looking for it.
|
Im starting today! :D

Of course, at the same time, I must make quilts out of the tops I've accumulated. |

I finished the Bow Tucks bag for my DD and the dog bed. So on today's agenda was the second dog bed and catching up on 9Ps. What could be easier than to combine the 2 right? Ok so I had scrap flannel hanging around and I decided to use that and try the 4 to 9P, if I messed them up the new puppy won't care. HA! I like them... ALOT! Now what? :? Here are the 12 blocks. I started with 3 1/2" 4Ps. They are now 5 1/2" 9Ps. Wish I had somemore of this flannel around it would make a great quilt!

Beautiful block ladies! Dagny...awesome quilts....what is a "pickle dish" quilt?
|
It's not a very widely known pattern, but is somewhere between a New York Beauty and a Double Wedding Ring. I think it might be one of the old Kansas City News blocks. Mine will be very non-traditional, though. It's not a quilt block for the timid in that there are lots of curved pieces and part of it is paper pieced.
I will do it in preparation for a class I'm going to take in the fall to make a Christmas Pickle quilt, which the owner of my LQS describes as one of the most difficult quilts there is. :XD: |

At the end of each arc (pickle?), there is a square, so four squares come together at each intersection. I think the football-shaped centers might all be done in a unifying color (not sure yet). The rest is background. |

Hi Everyone! I have been working on several things and trying to get caught up here.. I have only 12 blocks that were sewn 9 parts and then I have cut them in fours.. I have not gotten them sewn back in the mixed look yet! Once I do I will post those.. lol not sure what I am making with those.. it was a Moda three charm pack.. I have like 6 left of each and all the same in each pack.. not sure what to do with those .. maybe can buy another charm pack and add to the rest. After that I may be just using some scraps making just 9 patch squares. Anyways, just thought I would let you know I am working :)
or maybe this way... Cut 9 patches to be sewn together Block positioning ... maybe |

I'll post in the picture section when I get a little more done.
It's an old, old pattern. I've got a pickle dish made by my grandmother. This, however, is not going to be my grandmother's quilt! Hers is made of muslin and old house dresses. |
got my extra fabric and have it washed and ironed, now to get it cut out :-)

Solid navy in 4 corners, solid red in center and the other 4 squares were red and whites - mostly prints - some with stars. Need to learn how to post pics..... sorry |

Hello everyone
This is what I plan to do with the nine patches I am making. They are 5 1/2" unfinished. The pinwheels blocks are the same size........ the are cut offs sewen together from another quilt I made. Question do you think using these 2 blocks together that the quilt will be busy?????? the blocks will be set on point... and crazy squares will be added around the edge............. see attached picture. 9 patch and double pinwheeles |
What a great idea for a quilt!
|
Beautiful blocks
|
Looks great. It doesn't look to busy.
|
I love it! I don't think it is too busy at all. Great job! :D
|
Swan Song----I love that 9 patch pattern.
