She's have some fun getting to do something that she normally would be able to do. Isn't technology wonderful?

Judy, that's wonderful that your friend can now quilt. You are a great friend to lend her your machine. I have met some of the most caring, giving people on this board. You are all a special group! :-)

Here are my first set of 9P blocks. There are thirteen 3 1/2 inch in all. The second picture is what I did with them. The finished table topper or wall hanging top is 25 1/2 inches square. I used 1 1/2 inch strips and 2 1/2 inch strips. The beige print blocks are 3 1/2 inches. I specifically used these dimensions because most of us save scraps that size. This topper goes together very quickly and easily. I did take pictures thru the process in case some of you are interested in a tute.

13 9P blocks, just add some more scraps and...

Voila a table topper!

Beautiful tabletopper Swan Song.

I still don't know what to do with mine. They are Christmas fabrics and I made them three different sizes. Have to start thinking real soon how to put them together. Until then, I just keep making more blocks.

brushandthimble 06-22-2010 11:29 AM

I pulled out Christmas fabric to start with, will have to see how many I can get out of what I pulled.
I'll post pictures as soon as I find my camera.

Dagny 06-22-2010 11:31 AM

Nice work, Swan Song. It's a great inspiration to the rest of us.

Swan Song 06-22-2010 11:38 AM

When I went thru my stash I found a lot (and I mean a lot! Must have been a good deal on it or my "sometimers" kicked in and I forgot I had some.) of this Tamarack Grove fabric along with several panels, Tamarack Grove and Christmas at Snowshoe Lodge. I bought Missouri Star's "Deal of the Day" North Woods Botanical charm pack because I thought it would coordinate well with the Tamarack Grove stuff I had for table toppers for gifts this year. I also bought a couple North Woods panels because I thought I might not have enough! That will teach me to look first! I have so much of this now that I am determined to use up. So you will be seeing a lot of this fabric! I may get bored with it and switch off to something else just for a break.

BrendaB 06-22-2010 01:42 PM

SwanSong, I would love to see the tute. That is beautiful!

Swan Song 06-22-2010 09:23 PM

Here is a link to the tute for the table topper.

You are welcome.
If you want a smaller topper you could stop at several different points. Just the center portion will measure 15 1/2" x 15 1/2". With the fabric strips that match the plain fabric squares added, the size would be 19 1/2" x 19 1/2".

I only have about 15 9P done but I was anxious to see them "disappear" I think it's going to be a really funky quilt. I have never posted pictures before but here goes.

9p

9p disappeared!

Dagny 06-23-2010 05:34 AM

Very cool blocks, Mary. They were beautiful before the disappearance also. A unifying center square really brings the blocks together.

Swan Song 06-23-2010 05:42 AM

marygrether, You only have to do one 9P block a day. We started on the 15th of June so we are up to 9 blocks at this point. This is not a swap and no quilt police are monitoring your progress. You can make 1 a day or 7 for the week in one day. It is totally up to you. If you want to join let me know and I will add you. :-)

Swan Song 06-23-2010 05:45 AM

mary those are great! That is going to be a striking quilt. :-)

Gr8Gr8 Gran Quilter 06-23-2010 05:45 AM

Beautiful. You did a great job.

nwm50 06-23-2010 05:53 AM

I am behind....but don't despair, i will try & catch up! Got to get all fabrics & pattern idea together! I did an churn dash & 9 patch so far. SIGH !!

Twisted Quilter 06-23-2010 06:25 AM

I cut some of my squares the wrong size. I got sooooo upset I took a few days off. It's been 5 days...so far.

GrammaNancy 06-23-2010 06:29 AM

So.......it looks like it is okay to make the nine patches and then go ahead and do things to them and not wait to the end???? I was stacking them up and waiting, not too patiently I might add, to use them. What a great idea this project is, sure has gotten my creative juices flowing.

Swan Song 06-23-2010 06:45 AM

It is easier for me to plan a project and do it as I go. I knew I was going to be doing my Christmas projects with the blocks so I decided to do them as I go.

Remember the only rule is 1 a day and use your stash as much as possible. So if you are dying to put something together go for it we would love to see!

That sounds like an opportunity to make a second project using smaller (or larger) nine patches. Problem solved.

Swan Song 06-23-2010 06:53 AM

Awww Twisted Quilter sorry to hear that, but you now have a "design opportunity"!

Here is your cheering squad to get back at it.

I agree--great color combinations

brushandthimble 06-23-2010 02:34 PM

I have fabric cut and strips pieced, now to cross cut the strips and I will be ready to catch up with the number of blocks to date.

moonrise 06-23-2010 04:25 PM

I've got 25 or 30 made so far, and have sewn part of them together already. :)

But I haven't even made a dent in my stash!

QUILTNMO 06-23-2010 04:47 PM

So you're ending up with both blocks and a stash? How could that be a bad thing?

Baba71 06-23-2010 06:07 PM

sounds like fun and a challenge for me because it will make me go to my sewing room and work for a little while every day, of course once I get there I will have a hard time pulling myself away. Guess I'll have to use the crock pot so we can have some supper .

Swan Song 06-23-2010 06:22 PM

Welcome! I will add you to the group.

Psychomomquilter 06-24-2010 03:38 AM

Ok I would like to try this, sign me up.

Swan Song 06-24-2010 03:45 AM

I have added you mary. Welcome! :-)
