Cutebuns - thanks for doing this for everyone! You are probably sick of people asking you this but is my fabric suitable for the BOM? I have looked and looked and finally found this fabric. If it is not suitable I would rather you say so and I will use it for something else. Fabric is expensive over here and for my first OBW I was a bit scared to spend $20 metre on fabric I really liked just incase I make a huge mistake!

I'm not too experienced here, but I think it will make a lovely OBW!! Love the movement with the subtle fabric shades...I think it'll look cool!

Hey - I understand what you just said, even at this hour. :-) that'll help me figure out the size by watching how the colors fall together. Does it help sometimes, when you're cutting your second "pile" of repeats to cut of a small strip off and stagger the point that you're using for the repeat point? Did that make sense? I know it probably creates some waste but is it worth it for the final results?

If it looks like you'll be cutting the same triangle, then yes, trim off even only 1/4" from the cut you just made, before cutting your next triangle. Then the rest of that strip you cut into triangles, will be different from the last strip you cut. Just changing that little bit will make a different pattern for each hex, in the end.

blahel - this fabric looks like it'll work for a obw. You'll have a lot of gray, but you've got that paisley design to work off of and you'll have the punch of color from the apricot, gold and green leaves. I think it'll be interesting.

I agree FWL - it's going to be more subtle with punches of color, but I think it'll be really pretty. If you are looking for tons of contrast, I don't think it will work well, do you?

Hi, Just reading through this. Thank you , Cutebuns for doing the tute. I have wanted to do one of these for years , bought a book. Read through it a couple times. How do you know how much fabric to buy , for a certain size quilt? Like if you want a double size quilt, how do you figure how much fabric to get?

If you are seeing the same triangles go by then yes cut a bit off and move it over. Depending on how close you are to being equal to the length you will just be using it in a different place. At the beginning you cut off a scrap. And the end there is a bit of scrap. Hopefully you don't run past that. That is one reason why you don't want to cut your repeat evenly as well. Like cutting a 24 in repeat in 2,4,6,8 in strips. If you are cutting more than one the second will fall where the first is.

so you mean you can cut the strips in different sizes? Some small, some bigger? I guess since you are ultimately making strips, they'll be fine to put together? Interesting...so different from normal block construction!

Thanks, they are turning out so different from each other and from the starting fabric. Not sure how these will go together though. I think I have 90 blocks cut (sets of 6) - I won't cut anymore now until I get those sewn together and see where I am at then. Still have enough fabric do to a few more if I need them.

How tall are your triangles? You should have a good number to play with once they get sewn together. I just finished sewing my half hexs together into strips. This is my 4th OBW. I was just trying to figure out how big an area your 90 blocks will cover. My blocks were cut from 3.5" strips and 90 of them would be about 50" X 50". Do you have a planned finished size in mind? Looking at your pics., yours seem larger than mine.

I cut the triangles 3 3/4" and I hope I can make a few cubes to go in there as well. I would really like to end up with a queen size. I have enough fabric right now to be able to add a border of the original fabric or something - don't know what to make it larger.
