Question for Moda Fans

I thought I would let the conversation go on for a little bit before I posted the *other* thing that Moda told me.
They said that these two lines are still scheduled to print on 75x75:
- Dogwood Trail
- Summer Breeze II
(And yes, if you were wondering, it is Summer Breeze that is the beautiful but lightweight group we received.)
I was further told that Moda has discovered that most of their customers (and this probably means LQS owners) prefer their customary 60x60 and so they were going to use that, going forward on other new lines.
I asked about all the future lines that I have on order now and was told that all of them are going to be on 60x60. I didn't ask about ALL their future lines, just the ones that I have ordered. So maybe it's just these pretty florals that they decided to do on 75x75?
I'd like to find out what sort of information I can provide that would be most helpful to online shoppers: thread count or weight per square yard, or both.
We could certainly weigh our first 1-yard cut on the fabrics we receive... but that won't help us provide the weight information ahead of time for customers that want to pre-order.

Another thing I have noticed Moda doing on a lot of their fabrics is having a line about 1" above the selvedge even if the fabric would be considered a background fabric. I'm wondering what their reason is for doing this. With fabric so costly I hate to lose that much more of the fabric if I can't incorporate the line in to my design. Have any of the rest of you noticed this too?

I did notice this in the "solids" of their Rural Jardin line. And it did "waste" about an inch-and-a-half of the usable width of the fabric.

I sent an email to Moda (United Notions) to let them know how we feel about reducing the quality of their fabric. Maybe if they hear from enough of us, they will re-consider. Here is the link:

It just dawned on me yesterday in the fabric store that with the cost of cotton rising, the fabrics were going to start to get thinner. And now here you all are, talking about it...
I'm glad I have a goodly stash to work from for a couple of years, to wait this out.

If I can see through it, I won't buy it. I only buy what I consider to be top line quality fabric from a quilt store. If the fabric is 'thinner' to save money on their end, then it will also save money on my end. I won't be purchasing from that manufacturer. I'm with alot of people, I LOVE Moda fabric. But my money spends everywhere. I'm sure there are other manufacturers who are going to 'short-change' their customers. We'll see....

I certainly wouldn't stop buying all Moda lines, just the ones that are thinner. Your message to them is much clearer that way and you still get to enjoy Moda fabrics of the quality you have always loved.
They have already acknowledged that customers prefer the 60 square goods so let their production catch up to that decision. No need at all to stop buying what isn't changing.

I agree, but those who buy on-line won't be able to tell which is the better quality fabric until after the purchase. Except from the wonderful help that we have here on this forum, I wouldn't have known either. Keep up the good work everyone. Inform those of us who are out of the loop.

I went to Jo-Anns this morning to use my 50% coupons. They had bolts and bolts of novelty prints in cotton at 30 to 50 percent off so I had to browse. The fabric was so thin I wouldn't use it for anything in quilting. The patterns were really cute, but I'm not going to purchase fabric that feels like tissue paper. On the other side of the issue, the fabrics that had some body to them were priced much higher than I'm willing to pay.
As another member said, she buys her fabric online and there is no way to know what you're getting. So far all fabrics that I've purchased online have been quality and I've been very pleased.
As with just about eveything nowadays you really have to watch what you're getting.
