When first started quilting I loved doing sampler quilts. It taught me alot with all the variety.
For large bed sized quilts, the simpler the better. I just finished a top for my bed with the yellow brick road pattern.
Most of my quilts are lap or baby size and it can be simple or more complicated, just no PP as I do not like that.

I do not like these modern quilts. I do like a challenge when quilting. When I don't want a challenge I sew on string quilts that have foundations. No brainers, so to speak. Scrappy quilts are my favorite. I just finished Abby's Jacks from McCall's Quick Quilts Aug/Sept 2012 magazine. My challenge on that quilt was to put the blocks on point which I had never done before.

Smile Quick Quilts

I agree with you as I am the same say. Will do table runners, etc.. along with lap quilts or baby quilts but get tired if I try anything else.

I also like quick and easy quilts. Have made a few more difficult ones and won't make them again.
I enjoy making charity quilts then you can practice on fmq or try different easy quilt patterns also.

I prefer simple patterns or string quilts with scraps. I enjoy quilting, but not stressing over anything intricate. Love to see the work of those who do the more complicated stuff, though.

I like simple ones with muslin backs. They are just as colorful and are loved just as much by all I pass them on to. Have only been quilting for 2 yrs now and have way too many to make to get over fancy. enjoy seeing others though. smile

I get bored easily, so I limit my quilts to about 50" x 50". No matter how complicated the block, if I'm only making 9 of them then it's an "easy" quilt.

That is why I love Jenny on Missouri Star Quilt Co. she has some of the best tutorials... I do like a challenge though.

I love modern quilts and scrappy. i do one with all those small pieces every now and then. i like the fabric to make the quilt look intricate and complicated instead of me!

I have made the more intricate ones, by hand as well as machine but these days I prefer the simpler ones, log cabin, trip around the world, d-9 patch and all of the scrappy ones I adore. Fun and they move right along..
