The only usable section is about an 8" swath through the FQ. When I unfolded it, the section showing on the outside of the FQ was the good usable section. So here's the quandary - should I tell the shop owner where I bought it? I feel 100% sure the shop owner did NOT do this, I feel is was probably one of her girls in the shop who didn't care or was simply working too quickly to pay attention. And then I also wondered if LQS's buy pre-cut FQs from distributors? I believe this is a Jo Morton line, so is major name-brand.

I don't care about the money spent for it, small amount, but if a shop does this regularly then they'll lose customers, and I really, really, REALLY like this shop and don't want to see them go under due to stuff like this.

What would you do?

To answer your question: Does the quilt store buy fat quarters: Yes! fat quarters are available from a lot of fabric companies as collections etc and could easily be shipped and put out for sale without the QS noticing. Yes, please notify them as the flaw occurred during the dyeing process and not the QS owners fault. If it was me, I would like you to contact me so that I could make it right and so I could notify my wholesale supplier.

If I were the owner of a LQS I would want to know. So, I would be nice about it, but tell them.

Take it to the manager and ask to swap it with another - if they replace it, they're about customer service. If they don't let you swap it for another, that says something else entirely. I find it hard to believe that anyone would intentionally let this slip into the general merchandise - it's possible that in the process of cutting up end-of-bolt fabric, the employee(s) got "in the zone" and missed the flaw.

If you bought it at the bargain bin, then that's the reason why it's there. If you got it from the bolt, then by all means let the LQS owner know about it.

Definitely would say something, in a positive way. I like the idea of sending the email to the shop owner!

wow, that stinks. but just because its a small cut, doesnt mean you should accept it. maybe they will agree to send you a gift card to replace.

If the shop doesn't know they have a problem, they can't fix it. Bringing it to the owners attention would be a kindness.

The shop owner is checking today to see if she has more of that same line. She said either way that she'll make it right, but I told her that I was mainly concerned that she may have a bad bolt and not realize it. So all's good.
