We are planning a trip to Sisters, Bend, and Portland Oregon. Would like some suggestions for quilt shops not to miss along that route. Also if there are any shops on Hwy 5 in northern Cal, please let me know. Thanks.

When you say "Hwy 5", do you mean I-5? Or is it a state highway?

In Sisters you will of course go to The Stitchin' Post, they put on the show. In Portland there is Fabric Depot. Something to Crow About is in Springfield.

If you leave Bend/Sisters on Hwy 20, to reach Portland, you will come right through Lebanon, Oregon. We have a fabulous big LQS called "Finally Together" that is one block off the highway. You simply must stop by, and see what an LQS is supposed to be. Big, light, airy, and best of all, very helpful employees. If you do not find inspiration there, check your pulse. This is her third location in 10 years, each bigger and better than the last. I am not sure exactly what she is doing different, but as others are being closed, hers is still growing. Welcome to town. While in Portland, you simply must take the time to visit the Rose Test Gardens at Washington Park. So many roses together, of every variety and even some new ones (last time I went, they had this amazing brown rose). It is right next to the huge Zoological Garden. Drive careful and enjoy your journey.

*when you reach Lebanon, you are only 15 minutes from I-5 north to Portland which is roughly two hours further depending on traffic. Try to avoid Portland right at rush hour. It gets a little intense. (Hwy 20 goes right to I-5.)

I would highly recommend Fabric Depot in Portland. It is HUGE! (Used to be a Fred Meyers store). They have tons of quilt patterns, buttons, accessories and other types of fabric such as knit, wool, toweling and the lust goes on. They have most of the major quilting fabric manufacturers represented so it can take awhile to go through the store..

I LOVE Fabric Depot! My poor husband has spent a lot of time there waiting for me, LOL. Every time I go to Portland, a trip to FD is a requirement. If you like Creative Grids rulers, they have a huge selection there.
