I have heard of quilters who piece their quilt tops during the summer months, then quilt them during winter. That makes sense to me.

When we retired the first of this year I said on lousy weather days I will quilt. On the nice days I will ride my horse. Haven't worked on a quilt in 2 weeks and sure enjoying the nice weather we are finally getting here on the soggy coast.

I do pretty much the same year round, since I can no longer get outside to play in the yard, but piecing summer and quilting in winter is good. I hand quilt so it is nice to do when it is cold. I don't care for cold weather, and now it is summertime!! Love the Spring when the flowers bloom.
Good luck on your next round of surgery, Deb. I have been following you and reading your PDA, and cannot tell you how much I admire your spirit and I think you are just beautiful. Love your black hair. (Mine has turned pretty gray!) God bless you and send angels to watch over you, keeping you safe and happy.

For some reason I always sweat when I piece or cut or quilt, whatever so it doesn't matter if it is summer or winter. I still get hot.

Well, I SHOULD be spending more time outside working in the yard, BUT........nah!!!! When it's really hot, the air conditioning is turned on so it isn't uncomfortable to quilt. I do like to take hand embroidery or applique outside and sit on the patio working on it while the kitties are out exploring. They are indoor kitties and aren't allowed outside unless someone is watching them. ;) If it's hot, I'll sit in the shade, but I don't crochet anything that is large enough -- for example an afghan -- that would lay on my lap to make me even hotter. I work on those in the air conditioned indoors or in the cooler months of the year. I make purses using yarn and pull tabs so they are a size that doesn't add more heat when I'm crocheting them. :-D

I quilt all year round. My sewing area is my sunroom and I get the cool ocean breezes in summer. In winter, if it's raining, I just close the windows and drink hot tea. Evenings, I embroider or hand applique. I'm addicted to the sewing needle.

Summer in Minnesota is so short! We go to our lake in Northern Minnesota (I live in the Twin Cities) almost every weekend. Yes, I have a sewing machine and several projects waiting for me on rainy days!

Prayers and hugs to you, Debbie! It makes me smile when you say you pack your bag and take it to the hospital with you! Watch out! You'll be teaching quilting classes there! Hope all goes well with your surgery!

Debbie - got ya on my prayer cross and prayers going out for ya! I too quilt all year round. Working on quilts for those who have lost homes in fires and we learned an interesting lesson last Saturday. Had trouble with the LA and found out next day that the weather indeed affects machines (LOL). Not going to stop us from quilting tho - just gotta figure a way around it (LOL). We continue to make tops and some day I'll actually get my daughter's quilt top put together (just have to finish it - LOL and then quilt it....). Love everybody's comments. Again - good luck w/ surgery & you'll get those nurses hooked yet!
