I love to quilt and I love to cruise, but in my opinion the two don't mix. Why spend all that money on a cruise when you can stay home for free and sew. Just my opinion.

Whenever I've been on a cruise you are not allowed irons in the cabins. Likewise sharp implements, my BIL had a pen knife taken from him as he boarded and it was returned when he disembarked.

I think if you want to take it, you should. I'd just consider how you are getting to and from LA. I see from your profile it says you are in GA. If you are flying to LA, you'll have consider how to transport the machine. I would probably just start and la pas quilt (or other hand work) and have lots of pieces cut so I could do hand work. Doing hand work also allows you to socialize with other passengers as you can take it with you wherever you want to go.

Edit: Wow, cannyquilter, I didn't know that, but it does make sense. Maybe check with the cruise line. You don't want to get there with your good scissors (and other implements) and find you have to leave them behind.

My girlfriend and I took an Alaskan cruise - loved it.

We both took handwork. Sometimes we did it in our room, other times in out-of-the-way corners, and still other times sitting in deck chairs or conversation areas. It was a great way to meet people when we wanted to be "sociable".

The important thing to remember, though, is this is YOUR cruise and you get to do what YOU want. Just have lots of fun.

The sq footage in a cabin is small. We had a suite on a cruise this summer and I don't think I would have been able to sew in there. There's also the issue of finding a table to put your machine on. The bar might have a place for you to use. Or there may be some places out on the deck. Hawaii is beautiful! The Pacific Ocean around the islands is the most beautiful indigo blue. Have a wonderful time.

Take it unless you have a lot of hand work you want to take. By the second day at sea you'll be tired of looking at water

I did queen yo yo quilt while waiting in hospitals and dr offices.... also have quite a few hexies done for grandmothers flower garden...... also consider I would worry about my machine instead of focusing on cruise... worry about theft a.breakage.... don't trust aired baggage handlers for safety..... hand work more fun less stress..enjoy

I can get seasick standing on the end of the walkway, muck less on board a ship! I would not like a cruise at all.
