    Have the same problem with my swimming pool pump I bought last fall. the pump failed but because I can't find the receipt, they won't fix/replace it. :( We didn't have our pool this past summer :(

    I know how you feel when you want to sew and your machine is having a bad day. It would make me FURIOUS!!!

    Wish I were closer and I would lend you one of mine. Once when I took my Singer in to get a tune-up, the owner loaned me one of their, at ni cost, as I needed it for some sewing.

    I think after the holidays I'll go to one of the local repair shops and see what kind of machines they have . These new machines sure aren't like the older ones ! Plastic pieces of junk . well I sent them another e-mail . See what they say tomorrow . Nite all . Annie

    How frustrating for you. I got a singer last Christmas and I loved it. That is til it started giving major problems. I now have a new machine and that one sits unused.

    The $85 up front is usually a security payment to insure that you will come back and pick up your machine! In my experience, it is well worth taking a machine in for repair, I always get the repair done and a 'lube and tune'. My frustration and the time spent getting worked up to the point that whatever is broken takes a flying lesson? Cheaper to take it to the repair guy...
    How about the battery powered bobbin winders they have out now . Are machines picky about those too ?

    My machine is jammed.

    A jammed machine is caused by thread being caught in the hook. Remove the upper thread and the bobbin case, turn the hand wheel towards you (counterclockwise) by hand and remove any thread in the bobbin case area. *Always turn the hand wheel towards you. Turning the hand wheel away from you (clockwise) can cause the machines timing to become unaligned and jam your machine. Also, always make sure the presser foot is in the down position before you start sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will jam your machine in the bobbin case.
    This is fron singers website . Last 2 sentences . Does this mean you can't put your needle down before your presserfoot ? Does anyone know how to set the timing ? If you do please let me know . Annie

    I try to have my machines cleaned and checked by a dealer at least once a year. That way if something is going wrong hopefully it can be caught. Besides they can get into places I can't. I clean my bobbin area every time I change bobbins. I encourage my students to clean their machines often. I even ask when their machines have been cleaned lately. I tell them they wouldn't leave their babies in dirty diapers, why the machine. :lol:

    Beware of repair, however. I took an old Singer into a shop to have the zigzag fixed--it wouldn't zigzag. At the time, I wasn't sewing much--only Halloween costumes for the kids. I went to pick up the machine after it was fixed and paid $85 (this was 20 years ago--expensive!), then took it home and put it away. When I got the machine out again many months later, the zigzag still didn't work. When I took it back to the shop, the shop was out of business. Drat!
