Stripes - do you use them? How?

In my Quilter's World magazine they had a pretty quilt called String Star, Amish Style. The star was made of strips that made each diamond shape striped. When I looked at it I though it would be great for someone who had a big stash of scraps. But to just get the effect, I wondered why somneone didn't just use a striped fabric. The stripes of each diamond don't match up, and that actually contributes to the definition of the star. So I think it could be used for a quicky version of a striped star?

I enjoy using stripes. Sometimes I had trouble using them in in blocks, the direction was not always what I expected. If I had enough fabric I could get it to work. Those quilts have been given away, but I had one here that I used effectively in borders and sashing, and that's the easiest.

In Jan Krentz's latest book there is a fabulous rising sun quilt made all with stripes which is my dream quilt. I've been collecting striped batiks to make it. At first they were hard to find but I'm finding more and more on the internet.

Hi Greta: Just spent an hour looking at your website/blog. Wow! You do gorgeous, beautiful work. I just finished a Kaleidescope quilt top that I love. I want to make another so I appreciated your info on this. Thank you.
