How can you sell a king size quilt when materials and professional quilting comes to more than $250, no labor included?

You find someone willing to pay at $750 to $1,000. If you are marketing to the right people, you could do it. You just have to keep the mind set that your quilt is worth that much, even if you wouldn’t pay that much for a quilt, there are plenty of people out there that would, it’s your job to find them if you want to sell it. Remember, as a quilter, we don’t look at a quilt and think “Wow that is priceless.” Instead we think “Wow, I could make that myself.” But to someone that does not quilt, a homemade, one of a kind, quilt is worth much more to them because they could never make it themselves.

Gilla,
I have sold a king size quilt for $950 but it was simple 9 patch with a twist and some large flower quilting with stitch in the ditch to complete it. But it was my design, fabric selection and a return customer that knew who and how it was made. I've seen some quilters selling their bigger quilts for alot more but it's by chance for the most part.

I used to sell rag quilts for babies in a boutique in San Francisco area about 8 years ago and a crib size sold for $150. Of course by the time the boutique took their cut, I paid the postage plus all the fabric, batting and labor, I was not making anything so I decided to stop doing that and just enjoy the art.

I've never sold one of mine but, on a shop hop last week I saw a one-block wonder quilt the same size as the one I had done in quilt class (between a single and double-bed size). In a shop in a small town it had a price tag of $795 on it. I guess the owner wouldn't price it at that if she couldn't sell it.

Hi Bailey, I would LOVE to see a close-up of your quilt pic, it looks fabulous! I've been collecting black and grey fabrics to do something special with and your quilt looks like it might be just perfect! Could you please post a close-up pic?

Wal-mart quilts are from China and the quilting stitches are what I call toe-catchers, a quarter-inch apart or more! I also find that the cottons that they use are usually at the lower end of quality. Your friend got a deal from you! And it was made in the USA! Can you post a pic of your efforts?

I hope this help you, I get $100 for a baby quilt, $350-$400 for a full/queen size. I quilt a top for $65 and I have finished some for $125if they furnish the materials. My home town has a guild that has 170 members so lots of people quilt here.
