Anybody out there have a fave machine quilting (short arm!) to recommend? I was looking @ one @ JoAnn's today. Looked pretty interesting. It was Linda, last name started with F something. I KNEW I should check here before buying any book. She talked abt quilters paper. Looked like some sort of tracing paper???? you sew thru! JoA'S doesn't carry it..... Anybody know what it is or how to use it??? Thanks in advance!

Was the quilting paper golden colored? If so, this stuff is amazing!!! It's thin enough to sew on and you just draw your design on it, sew, and then gently tear the paper away. A friend gave me a square to try and now I am eager to go buy a roll for myself. I know Keepsake Quilting sells it for under $10.

I too could use some advice on good MQ books, especially on FMQ, of which I think I'm terrible! I wish someone would teach a class because I really could use the help!

Thanks Tiffany. The book said it was golden colored. Since JoAnns doesn't have it I had no idea what it looked like. Now I AM anxious to try it.. I KNOW that FMQ requires LOTS of practice but I am too busy making quilts ... lol! How cold is it in Idaho Falls today... cold here but sunny! 24 this a.m. brrr! old man winter is on the way... BTQ

I started out with Harriet Hargrave's first edition on machine quilting. Haven't bothered to upgrade since that first edition was *so* good! I still recommend it.

The only other machine quilter I know of that equals HH is Diane Gaudinski. She would be my second choice.

Both of these quilters give **detailed** information on **all** aspects of machine quilting.

I agree...Harriet Hartgrove's is the book that I use as my machine quilting bible. I'm no pro..but I love to play with it.

I used the paper that you are referring to and I have to tell you that its not magic. I sew through paper for a lot of my quilting and I've used the golden stuff, regular vellumn, tracing paper from a tablet from Wally's and even toilet paper on the borders. If its thin enough to tear away easily yet allows you to draw on it and then pin it to your top...its good enough.

Good luck!

It says we got up to 13F (-11C) today, but with the wind chill it's -3F (-19C) right now. It's supposed to get down to -8 (-22C), but they say with wind chill it'll be more like -35 (-37C). <gasp> That's just wrong!!! In the summer I have to do a ton of gardening. I have so many allergies it is actually easier to raise my own food. However, winter is my time to quilt, quilt, quilt. (We need a love smilie!) The more snow, the more I stay downstairs in my quilt room, which has a wonderful gas fireplace to heat things up nice and warm.

Thanks for the links to the quilting books. I think those are both books I need to add to my "To Buy" list. It's a long list. :|
