    Default Tired old iron!

My iron decided to poop out yesterday! I am in need of a new iron, since I use it 95% of the time for quilting I am asking all of you quilters out there what kind of iron do you have and why do you like it for quilting... !

I have not personally used one, but Sharon Schamber likes the Rowenta travel iron. She says it gets really hot.

It doesn't seem to matter how much you pay, they always seem to leak after a bit. I seem to be replacing mine annually, so I don't spend too much on them. I just got a Shark a few weeks ago that I paid under $30 for. So far I am happy with it. One thing I did this time was to read the paperwork before buying. The shark's auto shutoff is 15 minutes. Many of the others I looked at were 8 minutes. It annoys me to have such quick shut off times (even though I know it's for safety).

I was recently in a similar position. I am very happy with the Shark we bought. My first criterion is the weight. I can't lift a heavy iron, so that narrows the field considerably.

This one glides very smoothly, I can move it without straining my hands, it hasn't leaked, and holds quite a bit of water.

Mine is a Black & Decker cheapy. I don't put water in it--Problem solved. I use a spray bottle if I need steam. I got tired of spitting irons and spending a fortune to replace them. This iron has lasted at least 3 years and I only paid $9.00 for it at WalMart. It's still going strong. Hope I didn't just jinx myself!!

hunt good old American garage sales for irons. It's not that I can't afford new, just got tired of new irons catching a cold and getting runny noses after a couple of months.

After buying and returning a few irons, I settled on the Black and Decker Digital Advantage a few months ago. I use it mainly for my quilting. It's been wonderful. It's not too heavy but gets nice and hot pretty quickly. It doesn't leak. It uses tap water. It has a stainless steel plate. It has auto shutoff, but comes back up to your setting with the touch of a button so there's not a wait for it to reheat. I definitely recommend it.

I bought my latest iron at Costco, a really nice Rowenta that has plenty of steam.
