The closest Walmart to me does not have a fabric dept and I don't think it ever will. When I asked the manager (male) one day when it was going to happen I got the deer in headlights look.....but its camping, hunting, exercise dept has certainly grown......but good news is a Walmart about 25 miles away has one and it is a very good one...great fabric choices...the manager of the dept is a sewer so she knows what to buy....love it...needless to say, I now "travel" to the Walmart...........and might add a grocery piece or two to my cart!!!!

Although not all of WalMart's fabric is top-quality, our two local (one in each neighboring town) WM's do carry V.I.P. by Cranston, which I love for quilting and general sewing. I search the selvages for that brand, before I even look at the colors. We also have a local Hobby Lobby but the prices are generally higher. There's a JoAnn's somewhere around this area but I need to find it.

I also look at the selvages to see who is the manufacturer. I found onethat is a sewing theme for $4.97 a yrd and I looked it up on the Cranstone website. They didn't have it and its possible because its outdated. So. next time you see a material with good quality and price at Walmart, GET PLENTY OF IT! wish I did

My local WM has a medium sized fabric department but most of the fabrics are uglies. They don't have the prepackages things like piglets or charms. They also lack in the notions available. I hate going there for fabric and would rather order online and pay a little more.

Went to a Wal-Mart North of here and they are changing it all aroud. The gal said they are going to become a full cloth department. They had lots of charms. fat quaters and some other pre cuts. Lots of the fabric was $5.79. They had lots of reduced I think making room for the new dept. I did not price the fleece. It is a long way there but such a nice ride and that gal is really nice.

A whole lotta WM bashing going on here. I have seen my share of "cheapy" fabric at LQS , so it's not just Wally World or JoAnn's etc.

I personally think this is why some "hide" their quilting supplies and fabrics from your husbands. Cause y'all have been brainwashed into thinking only Quilt shop fabric is the only stuff to use.

*Big Sigh* oh how it would be to pay $8/yard or even $8/metre, hard to find any fabric here at that price EVEN on sale. $20/metre upwards is the norm

Went to Walmart today and did my usual browing of the fabrics. They are doing a major overhaul, again! More zippers, threads, lace and fabric. But what I do NOT like at this Walmart is you literally have to wait a good while for someone to cut anything!!!!!!!! I waited one time almost 30 mins. after inquiring with two employees and a manager! You'd think with them bringing it back they would provide better customer service. So a lady was there today complaining to the worker that she's waited more than 10 mins to have someone cut her fabric. Geez....

In most WM's there is a phone in each dept. I pick it up and call zero and tell them I need help. If no one shows, you do it again. Then when you leave you ask to speak to the manager. This works.
