I just tried the King Tut and loved it - I need to get more!

Aurifil, Superior and Connecting Threads are what I use - all 100% cotton. For FMQ/quilting I like using variegated threads. Adds interest.

I'm a Connecting Thread fan myself.

Being sort of beginner, if I'm understanding correctly, you can use a 50wt in the bobbin and 40wt on top? I love King Tut thread...thanks

I've switched to sewing with Connecting Threads thread. I love it. I am sure there are higher end threads like King Tut and whatnot but I'm really happy with my CT thread.

I bought a lot of the grab bags for thread painting.
Very interesting and thanks for the clarification!

I have used Coats and Clark duel duty for machine piecing and their Hand quilting thread for years, but they must have changed something because now the fiber breaks down and causes knots and that portion gets very thin when hand quilting or hand piecing I have decided not to use their thread anymore. I will be interested to find out what kind is best to try.

Sure you can! I use Bottom Line in my bobbin (60wt) and King Tut (40wt) most of the time. I've used 60wt bobbin with 50wt and 60wt on top as well. If I'm going to use 12 wt, 20wt or 30wt on top, I'll use a 50wt or 40wt in the bobbin so the weights aren't too different.

Far superior to any other I've tried. Expensive, but thin enough that a lot more goes on the spool.

My favorite (cheapest) thread suppliers are: http://www.kmquiltingsupply.com/
http://www.joann.com
http://www.redrockthreads.com
http://www.sewthankful.com/
http://www.shoppersrule.com

I check each one when I'm ready to purchase and go with whichever one has what I want at the best price.
