That's always been my philosoophy, too. There was a period a few years back when I made 3 quilts where the main fabric was peach (2 wedding quilts & one for my parents). I HATE HATE HATE peach! But I knew the new owners would like them, so I just grinned (or not... LOL) & bore it. Whew! I'm glad those are out of the way & safe in new homes!

I like almost all colors, but it would be hard using a fabric i hated. I don't think I would ever agree to making a quilt for someone who wanted to choose every fabric I was going to use. From what I've seen, non-quilters have a hard time visualizing how all the fabrics will work together in a quilt. So I might have them pick a couple of main prints with the understanding that I would possibly pick more to make it all work. What I have done, is take the person shopping to show me colors that they like and types of prints they like and dislike, so that I can choose based on what I know they are going to like. So far that has worked well for me.

I have been in your position more than once and have finally made a personal rule that my time is far too precious to spend it working on something I dislike - it takes twice as long and the time spent is not enjoyable. From now on if someone is having a baby I'm going to use fabrics I like, a pattern I like, and it's going to be made with love.

I think it is boring to work on something when I don't like the colors but I just keep plugging along. I am certainly happy when it is done and lots of the time I end up liking it after seeing it for a while.

Hurry up and get it done so you don't have to look at it.

DIL picked out colors it was hard fro me to work with. I'd tell my self 10 minutes at a time, but once I got started, that usually turned into half an hour or more. When my son told me how excited his wife was that I was doing this for her, I concentrated on that and it flew together.

A few weeks ago, I was helping my friend Paula, make a scrappy purse. Her daughter picked out all the fabrics ,over 6 different designs!!! Another friend (who does not sew) stopped by to visit,,,she sat there pretty quite (for Brenda!!)..later on I heard Brendas reason for her silence...
She thought we were NUTS!! those fabrics were ugly!~! she couldn't believe what we were doing!! BUT...when she saw the finished purse..she was blown away with (in her words) How beautiful it was!!! : )
Sew that beautiful quilt! make someone happy!

So far, I've never made one that I hated. I love so many colors and fabrics, though, I think it would have to be really ugly for me to hate it!

Just smile and thank goodness those aren't your color choices for a quilt.

I guess I have an artistic temperment because I would not make a quilt I wasn't totally happy with, even to please someone else. I am not a machine, I'm an artist, and I would be miserable turning out something I didn't love. Would have to say 'no'...
