Straight vs bias binding.
505 vs spray baste.
Walmart vs LQS.
seams to the side vs seams open.
cut vs tear for straight edge.

I wonder, if our ancesters, who pieced with whatever they could get their hands on, are having a huge hoe-down up in heaven and laughing their insides out over the 14 pages that this topic has already brought about. It really must seem trivial to them for it to be such a huge controversy over which machine, which store to purchase your fabric, or whether to use steam in your iron. (Just where do you put the steam into this solid medal iron?) If only they had it half as good as we have it today.

Ladyjanedoe, I solve the problem of MY quilt having been long-arm quilted by someone else, by giving the LAQ credit on my quilt label.

Pre wash or not That is the biggest reason I haven't joined a swap. I prefer all fabe to be per washed.
To each there own... I just figure if I am piecing and quilting I do not want any surprises after it is first washed. Either dye blead or wrinkiled to the hilt.

Well, naive I must be! Funny to read this today! For the first time I somehow came across a quilting site yesterday that was promoting only using fabric in your stash and never buying new as a means to eliminate the "dreaded" stash! They looked at it as a compulsion or an "ism"! OMG, I almost fell over! LOL

Needless to say I ran as fast as I could from that site to make sure I did not catch whatever it is that they carry! I am not a woman of means by any stretch of the imagination. I am not wasteful! But I would never even consider a sewing diet free of a new piece of fabric if it was called for! LOL I need the fabric eye-candy effect when I walk into a fabric store! Others may find that satisfaction in Vegas, in a bottle of pills, walking down the beer and wine isle, or at high speeds on the highway. Mine fills my mind's eye with color and makes the imagination run wild with glee over ideas! And I don't have to ruin my health over it! In fact the opposite it true, it helps my mental skills, gives me a creative calm, and strengthens my drive to live!

If you take a dish to a pot luck dinner do you get the same kind of criticism about the dish you might get here or there about quilting. Why is it that others feel free to make negative comments about quiting and not other things in life. Such as........I taste four in your sauce instead of cornstarch....you should always use cornstarch to thicken the sauce.

RE: FLYING_V-GODDESS "How to handle a LAQ when they did a crap job on your quilt: Some say demand a refund....and a few suggestions are just short of going back to that quilt shop with a torch and a pitchfork".... rotffffffffffff...

Ok.. I know this is NOT FUNNY when it happens, but THIS COMMENT from Flying V Goddess got me to spit coffee out my nose....LOL Seriously WELL SAID and hilarious....LOL

Can't say I've ever heard any of the two groups ever debate about what should be or not regarding wash or not wash...about fabrics....etc.

But than again I've only been in one over a year and the other one 9 months so perhaps haven't gotten to know them well enough yet.

As for "quilt police" I tell them around here that I live to annoy the quilt police. LOL
