I think quilts with borders almost always look more finished and more professional. Most of my quilts, especially the "busy" ones have either plain borders or borders using some of the fabrics (tone on tone, etc) already in the quilt. It's like putting a period at the end of a sentence! Use your own judgment, of course. We don't all see things the same way.

Sorry no opinion just knowing which ever way you go it will be great and your quilt will be a great comfort to the recipient.

Try flipping the triangles so th color is against the quilt edge, VS the cream against the edge. See how that looks. IMO, they seem to be floating away visually.

I like it without...the half square triangles are too busy...I'd use the background color...or, if you want to use up the excess half sqare triangles from trimming the top, add them to another top, or as the border on sheets & pillow cases.. use 4 fitted together to make a light or dark diamond shape in the center...and then add those to the ends of the pillowcases/sheet top edge.

I like a border on the edge.. but you could make it very simple since you don't have a lot of time.. Perhaps just a plain border with a pieced block on the 4 corners?/

I love the triangles, that's a great look, but I think they need to be bigger. Maybe 1/2 the size of your orginal center block? If you have time and fabric that would look wonderful! if you don't have time, don't worry about it. It's a great guy quilt and he is going to love it.

Love the triangles as an inner border, then a wider solid border to balance the large blocks
