A can of spray stencil marker. You place your stencil on the quilt and spray this white damp powdery stuff on the stencil. Sounded like a good idea at the time. It comes off way before you're ready, smells bad and makes a gooey mess on your stencil.

The best notion I have is a thread catcher which I bought a pattern for and made. It hangs over the door of my sewing table and when I snip off the threads during sewing I place them in the thread catcher. Here is a link if you would like to purchase one. I am sure you can probably find one cheaper elsewhere.

It's probably a good thing that things are so expensive here, or I would have more. I like just about every notion I have bought - including the bobbin tower. I have a presser foot for sewing curves and just about 30 fancy rules for measuring stuff easily. Haven't tried my latest purchase yet - which is an x - block tool. However, it looks promising too. I like my lazy angle rule for many things as well.

I just took a small old basket, lined it with a piece of a plastic bag, and set it on the table by my machine. I carry it with me to the ironing board, the cutting table, or wherever I need a place to toss threads.

I too have the pounce. I couldn't get it to work either until I complained to the people at the Int. Quilt Fest. in Houston where I bought it. They told me to take it out and whack it several time on a brick wall. The chalk now comes out and works great. I've let others borrow it and they too were chocked how well it worked.

I took a couple of classes last week in Houston from Pam Clarke and she showed us how you are supposed to pounce...which is not to "pounce" at all. Use it across the stencil in a scrubbing motion. Make sure your pouncer is good and powdery by tapping it sufficiently, and then scrub across. She said everyone who actually "pounces" gets frustrated at it. They petitioned to rename it so it wouldn't be confusing to consumers...but it didn't stick. Hope that helps. I quite like it now that I know how to use it.
