I had the type that would be rolled up or down by small ropes.
Granny used to have to roll them up when it was time to eat because they all sat around the old dining table (which I have now)to quilt. Then I also had some that were in a small frame and your rolled the quilt as you quilted. I am sorry to say I got rid of both types. I use hoops or else I use my sewing maching.

I have several wooden hoop frames, the PVC pieces that make several different sized frames, an oval floor frame, an old card table with the top ripped off and the upper frame wrapped with fabric to pin to,an old fashioned frame made of 1X2's and held together with C clamps, and I don't use any of them. I pin or use the new spray glue to hold the quilt layers together and then quilt them in my lap with no frame at all. That seems to work best for me.

Do you like your Ulmer Quilt Frame? I'm new at this quilting thing and not much space so ulmer seems the way to go. I have been looking for a used one so I don't sink a lot of money in a frame when it might not work out for me. Thanks
