I closed the windows in my quilting room and put on the space heater all day yesterday and my fabric is now no longer damp. But it is pretty hot in there! LOL

I hate to invest in an a/c but I think even if I don't mind the heat and humidity my fabric does - what if my little stash gets moldy or mildewed???
I think I'll get a little a/c for one of the windows and call it a necessary quilting expense.

Yes, I got up one Saturday morning to go to a quilt class and it was snowing. I would have gone but the area I was going to was 45 minutes away on total highway. Too may people drive too fast when it is snowing! But just this one time did I let weather stop me.

I'm right there with you. My whole house doesn't have air. And my bedroom is on the 3rd floor attic which also happens to be where the sewing area is. Any quilting is on hold for me until September at the earliest. I can't even sew in the afternoon because it's so hot. And the window fan happens to be right over where my cutting area is, so no fan while cutting. I spent the last 2 hours cutting out hexagons so I can make a GFG outside in the shade where there might be a breeze. Good luck with the heat. I hope it cools down for you a little bit!

I am in Salt Lake City, and we are having an unusually coolish summer. Hasn't officially hit 100 degrees, I don't think. And humidity, what's that? LOL. So party at my house, BYOM. (bring your own machine)

Indeed. I hate the heat and humidity makes it even worse. I've never done well in the heat.

If it's that humid you might want to consider a dehumidifier instead of or in addition to a window AC unit. We have a little one that just plugs into the wall, works great (keeps the basement from getting damp!) You really want to make sure your fabric isn't getting damp and then staying that way and that space heater doesn't sound comfortable to me AT ALL :lol: Besides which it's a fire hazard if you leave it unattended!

You all are complaining about no rain. Well, so am I. My parents have a lawn matience business and even though we got an 1 of rain over the weekend, it all ran off and the grass is still not growing. Therefore, no income. Which means cold winter because the heat isn't getting turned up as high as last year (67!!) And yesterday the humidity was so high and it was supposed to rain, but it didn't. And it's still humid. All I'm saying, we better get a very snowy winter to make up for all this dry.

Anyone else believe in the farmer's almanac? it's been pretty accurate all summer for us.

I don't mind quilting in high heat (we've had so many days over 90 I lost count), but this humidity is killing me, and it's making my 2 year old miserable. She's constantly throwing temper tantrums because it's too hot & humid to walk to the park and play (it's about a mile away)

These are all good points. We have the humidity, the cold and sometimes even the snow; but we don't have earthquakes. I was so scared when the last big one hit there. The first one wasn't as bad as the month long aftershocks that came after. I remember one night sitting in my living room and you could literly feel the aftershock come under my house; I thought my floor was going to bust open. My husband was overseas and I had three kids plus ran a daycare and had to deal with it all alone. I had a lot of fun site seeing in San Fransisco and even more fun seeking out resturants in the nearby towns; we lived in Alameda. After the earthquake hit we couldn't even safely leave the island. At least here most of the times we get warnings as to what is to come;weatherwise.
