taking over my dining room, being single it works, and is really big, i never even use my living room, i just am lucky to have a great rental, 1/2 of a victorian house, so the living room is looking good for overflow, it came with a piano, looks cool, but i can pile fabric on it, lol. i basically live in my kitchen, bedroom and back porch. since i do upholstery too the charming victorian living room, with piano (that i do not know how to play), the victorian couch (also came with), the non working gas fireplace, it is now full of foam (not the fireplace, the lr), so i tell everyone, if you want to find me, go to the back porch and ring the triangle, really loud, then i may hear it or may not (that depends on who i see out there, have been waiting for richard gere for years, no luck so far, but hope springs eternal)

i need a life, and at least i feel connected to fiber artists, and that is what quilters are, they carry the message of faith, security, and home, not a lot of quilters in my area, so this is like a present.

My sewing area has slowly increased in size and is taking over the "dining" area in my Townhouse... Ugh. My Dining table doubles as my cutting table. I try to keep it tidy, because it makes the whole living area look messy! Cant wait to have a real sewing space... 2 more years!!!

I am set up in the basement with a permenant setup. Made myself one of the large ironing boards that sits on top of my regular board. Plenty of task lighting. Bed for the dog - he's never far from Mommy!

Ive got my own room so I like to hide out from time to time.

However, Just an idea, Ive seen some 'quilting boxes/desks' that open up when you want to to sew and you just fold when your done..


Kinda like the one pictured, Check out thrift stores, post an add on Craigslist and freecycle.. Who knows there may be someone looking to find a new home for theirs... Good luck..

I also have multiple sewing spots.

In the travel trailer I put my featherweight on the built in swing out table and sit on one of the built in couches that together pull out to make another bed. I put my sewing stuff that I'm using on the other one as it's within easy reach. What I'm not using goes in the cabinet above.

At home I've pretty much taken over the dining room. Have to move everything for Christmas dinner or else balance plates on our laps in the living room like we did last year. LOL!

At the cabin I have my studio which is in the process of becoming my 'real' sewing spot. Still a wall and a half to paint, shelves to install, etc. Now that the electric is done that should move faster. Hooray for AC!

I have a nook in the bonus room that I sew in. I like that I am in the middle of things as our kids are 4 yrs-12 yrs. Still young. It is on the main floor, off the family room/kitchen area. I could have a huge space in the basement, but it is not finished and way out of the way. For right now I like that I can sew while they play. If I were in the basement, I wouldn't get anything done.

I'm really lucky...earlier this year my husband converted our small spare rooms (girls have now got homes of their own) into the most lovely sewing room...I designed...ikea had the units and he built...love it...my space...no TV...no radio...just my laptop and machines.......should mention houses in the UK are really small so it is only 11x8...but still mine...all mine

When I finally got a room for myself, I started fixing it up as my sewing room. Then MIL died, and moved FIL in. Now I sew where ever I can, dining room or a small table in my BR. But It's very cramped and my stuff is spread all over the house. I spend way too much time setting up and taking down. Someday I'll get my room back.

My daughter has had a small desk built into their bedroom with shelving built above it. She has plastic boxes filled with materials etc stored under their queen size bed.
