I do planned quilts. I've tried scrappy but was too chaotic for me. When I made the Baltimore Album quilt for my daughter's wedding, I specifically bought fabrics to match their room and that would go together. The closest to scrappy I've done is the butterfly quilt for my little girl using leftover fabrics from dresses I made for her. That's not to say I don't save my scraps - if it is more than 1/4 inch, I save it. Sometimes I use them, along with planned.

I like scrappy, I can use alot of colors and designs and make something beautiful. And you never have to worry about not having enough of any one fabric.

I do both and save the scraps from the planned quilt to use for my scrappy blocks.

Both, but I tend more towards the planned fabric quilts.

I find anything I plan will end up taking on a life of it's own at some point anyway so why bother?

With my most recent, I planned the center and the rest just happened with whatever was available. Looking back on it, there is no way it could have been planned, although many think it was.

    It's a fine line I suppose.
