One of my favorite quits is backed with white. The quilting (machine done) used a varigated thread in rainbow colors - I think the proper name was 'primary' colorway. The disign stands out wonderfully, and the thread was picked because of the fabrics chosen for the front.

Having said that, I usually back my quilts with a coordinating fabric, unless there is a compelling reason to use white/off-white. For a child, I try to use flannel, because the quilt won't slide off the bed so easily.

Almost all of mine are plain white muslin. Only exceptions were the one I did for my mom which was a green print and one for my nephew which was a money print.

I usually choose a muslin or off white for the back of my larger quilts that will be used on a bed and a colorful print for lap quilts or throws. No reason, just prefer them that way.

AI have always used white or off white on my backs. I like them that way. And always get 108 wide so there are no seams. Just the way I have always done it.

I have bought muslin to use as a backing and when it comes down to it, that method looks so plain to me. So I use a pattern. SOmetimes, I pick up on one of the colors, sometimes I use one of the fabrics from the top, and the last one got a little variety. I let the mood du jour dictate what to do.

I piece the back with the left-over fabric from the quilt top. I make mostly quilts for kids. I love a cheerful back as well as the front!

My sister does most of hers in black and border, I do most of mine in muslin, borders of contrast to top but many of mine are from 30's original materials, not reproduction stuff,If a quilt is white on the top I finish in white, I just finished one called The Journey, Hoffman fabrics, tourquoise backing and border, getting ready to quilt one soon, with white , top is white with maple leaves with green sashing , printed bottom to match the leaves, my sister made a double wedding ring not too long ago, hot pink around the rings her quilting friends thought she was crazy . she backed it in white, when it was finished , friends were quite pleasantly surprised, so looks like any thing goes,
