Oh that is so pretty. I like the hummingbirds too.

No the quilt was not made in 1883 but recently. Apparently from what I heard the quilters were asked to put for sale signs on their quilts with the price they would sell their quilts for. They were to take in account cost of material and the time invested in making them. The person put the price of their's at $80,000 and really had no intention of selling it at all but after the show a person contacted her and offered $70,000. She let it go. I think the original intent was to let the people who come to the shows to realize how much time one invests in doing those quilts and the costs involved.

Dragonfly Nana........You gave me a great laugh today. I can just picture you trying to figure out what to do and talking to yourself quite colorfully. I came home from Australia with the thought of what should I do. Well I had bought a book some time ago that is titled Crazy Quilt Stitches and it has great squares in there so I am using that.
THese type of quilts do take a lot of time. I think even if I machine embroidered it, it still would be more time then actually doing another type of quilt. So far what you all have done is so pretty. You all inspire me to keep going.

Hello everyone, just dropping in again! Such pretty quilts this month! Crazy has turn out to be such a great theme.

Moonrise, your quilt is gorgeous, so completely girly!

Ldugas, absolutely love the hummingbirds, I had to call my daughter to come and see them, she goes gooey over them.

I like this idea of selling a quilt based on the time spent, especially after spending three weeks solid on my mega project and I'm not even a quarter of the way there...

Anyone want to try a different technique on a doll quilt? I've posted a tutorial - I'd love to see what you ladies could come up with.

Ok, I think I have caught up, had to skip some, but wanted to see what you all were doing with this one since Krystyna bullied me to join. LOL As if I needed one, I think I might have another passion! This is sooooooooo much fun. I started my quilt for Brenda21 last week, or actually finished starting it. I had started putting together some crazy quilt blocks a year ago or so, (hey this might also count as a finished UFO!!). So, anyway, I started working to make them a little bigger and join them. Trying to get the thing square. You DO NOT want to hear my method for this, it is not conventional. Well, all of a sudden it hit me. And I cut it up into smaller squares, added a sashing and now I am embelishing it. After all that, here is my question. If I am adding my embelishments, some by hand and some by machine, do I do that before or after I quilt it. From the pictures, it looks like a little of both. I sewed some ric rac on using my 301 and didn't like it so I tore it off. Don't want to spend the time ripping, so thought I would get a little feedback from the "experts". Going to spend the day at the park tomorrow watching DGK's play ball, so thought I would do my handwork there, so I need to get the machine work done before then. I am really enjoying this, can"t wait to see more pictures. Thanks, Krystyna, for getting me involved in this!!!

HEY!!!Bullied???
Glad you are having a good time with this. I think that as we move out of our comfort zone -- stepping away from the "I can't's" to the "Wow! I like this" -- we grow as quilt artists. And this seems to be a format that is really bringing out the artist in so many of you. Yes, the process can be confounding, but when we come out the other side ... boy oh boy! A new found creativity.

The quilt for $70K is shown in Quilters Newsletter this month. it is pretty and it did take her quite awhile to make it. It does have some pretty stitches in it and is a collection of her grandmother and mother's fabrics. For myself, the time it took her to make it was extensive and I could never stick to it that long. she is surprised it went for that much as well. I do like her grandmother's fan in the border to surround the rest of the crazy she had going on.

Now if that isn't funny!!!. I am not complaining I think it is awesome. We met at lqs today to try and figure out what we were doing and to get started on this THING you call crazy quilt!!! I am not liking it at all. We tried to hide our projects from one another and are trying not to get the same fabric in psychomomquilter's dq!!! I think I have pulled a sneeky and am changing my crazy quilt a bit shhhh don't tell Fay!!!!! Anyway we had a ball and the shop owner was in Michigan visiting family and we had the shop classroom a mess. We took pics for Cindy to see what we were doing. Of course we cleaned very well when we were done. Needlegrammy is going to post a pic of us during our quilting session and a little of what classroom looked like!!!
OK I'm a little behind on following the posts here. I'm thinking it would have been rather interesting if you two did use the same fabrics and maybe different designs Or really wacky would be same design same fabrics but different colors of the same fabric prints. How often could you do something like that? And it would be wacky, but I think it would also be cute and hilarious.

I love the quilts which have come in! Moonrise, your binding treatment is very cool!, I may have to try that sometime!

I love the hummingbird quilt too!!! I have been very into birds lately they seem to be finding there way into all of my projects!

I am so curious about this $70K quilt, I hope I can find a pic of it online. It is amazing that it sold for so much, but we really put so much into our quilts it is nice to see one sell for a reasonable amount!
