As for what to stuff them with, I have used poly stuffing, and also now I'm using ground walnut hulls. They are supposed to sharpen the pins and needles. I would hesitate putting steel wool in one to sharpen the needles and pins, as I'm thinking if it gets damp it might rust and then deposit the rust on the pins. The cheapest place to get the hulls is at a pet supply store. You have to get a larger bag on them, but it would be cheaper in the long run. You also can share them with a pincushion making friend.

This is the pincushion that rejenea sent me! I love it! And pink is my favorite color! She also sent the crocheted snowflake for my Christmas tree!
Thank you, rejenea, your package made my day!
