I also agree with the "industrial look". Can you feminine it up a bit with a valance (as suggested) & do as some others have said & de-clutter some of all "the stuff" you have in the room. It looks as if it needs to be "softened" up a bit, maybe not with a lot of "frilly" stuff but just warmed up a bit. Try storage containers & hide them under tables or maybe look for a "cheap" cabinet from IKEA or Home Depot or even an armoire that someone is selling on CL or wherever. Envy the size of your room & I think with just a few little changes it could be cozier........maybe with a touch of warmer, pastel paint colours. MHO only.

I bought large matching linen like baskets to hide my sewing stuff and put them on shelves. They look nice and are very functional. There are patterns to make large baskets so how nice would they look with coordinating fabric if you decide to make new curtains for your tables. You need a bold color theme so everything matches. New paint on walls always makes me smile! New rugs on the floor will help warm it up.

I think it is a nice space as well. The space on sewmanyways.blogspot looks great because she has made all her pieces match by painting them all the same colour. If you want to paint all your furniture pieces that would help them come together but a lot of work.

NJ Quilter: I do have a quilt that drapes over the back of the purple chair.. I didn't even notice it missing! All of the space under the tables are taken with totes of fabric and in the case of the gate-leg table.. more sewing machines. (Imagine that!) I would love-love-love a table with a lift, however, it's not in the budget. We are saving for a HVAC by the summer. I've been scouring craigslist and other local postings for a sturdy solid wood table to "Ikea hack" into an inset table. My idea is to retain the cut-out and make it "replaceable" to fit in the hole to create a solid table surface to place the machine on to embroider.

Scrappy Gram: I found the laptop stand about 4 years ago at Wal-greens for about $15. It's quite handy!

Wall space is at a premium and I'm quite lacking. I suppose if I were to get rid of the gate-leg table and move my GO! station down I could put an armoire type piece in-between the windows. It would be nice if I had a piece of furniture to repurpose! The purple chair is huge and omg so comfie. When everyone is here for Quilt Festival, we call it the "Sleepy Chair" because all of us hvae taken a nap in it at one point in time.

This was my thought as well. I would remove all the shelving from the walls and find a new space for all of those boxes. I think that would help with it not feeling and you could put some pretty pictures or quilts on the walls to give it some personality.

I agree with this, by getting rid of the stuff on the walls it would look much neater. The room is very nice, so at least you have a lovely beginning. Maybe some pretty curtains could help. If you had a pretty dresser with drawers to put all the stuff from your pegboard it would look neater.

You and I are so much alike, we could be sisters. I look at your room and I see my room! All is well organized, but still see clutter! Here's what I have found out about myself…..I feel as if I need to see things to remember things. In reality, if things are put in cabnets, and I am consistant about it, I CAN find things that are not out in view. Secondly, if I buy some materials that go together for a future project, I keep those fabrics, etc. together, write a note about it, and put it out of sight. I have a cupboard with a large shelf where I put future "projects." My scrap shoe boxes are in a cabinet too. Yes, I do have one set behind the other, but I don't mind moving one color to get to another since they are arranged by color.I have an enclosed place where I put "tools." I know a pegboard is wonderful, but visually, it makes me crazy. I do hang some of my rulers, but it is on the side of a cabnet I can't see from the door or from my machines when seated. When the room looks cluttered (as mine does now with post xmas purchases…..my what deals……), I too avoid it. Good luck!

I think you have a wonderful room! In MHO, a sewing room/studio is a "working" room. Working rooms do appear cluttered because they are "working" rooms. The beautiful thing about having such a wonderful room is, "You never have to put your work away!" I remember when my daughter was a kid, I had to sew in the dining room and put everything away including my sewing machine. It was very hard to stay motivated.

Here you have the perfect room. What anyone else thinks (including me) doesn't matter. It's your room. Sometimes I feel that my sewing area is cluttered also and a day spent dusting and putting non-essentials away usually does the trick. I too have a large pegboard and, yes, it does look like a store - it is supposed to look like a store. Everything is there "in sight". If I put all of that away, I will forget I have it and buy a duplicate. I love, love, love my pegboard. I really don't have a lot of wall space because I have 3 large windows. They are great! One of my windows is covered with a piece of solid insulation and then I have a flannel piece over it for a design wall.

I too have a problem with my main sewing machine being too high. I can't change that so I take frequent breaks and watch my posture. Try to keep my chest forward to ease my back and that helps.

I really love your room. Try to change your thoughts about it and see if it doesn't look much more inviting. Remember, it's a "work" room and not your den. Enjoy!!! Just start sewing something you love and by thankful that you have such a great place to sew. Soft music, good lighting and your good to go! Good luck!
