I thought so, too, in the beginning but as with any pattern if you start with step one it falls together eventually. Make sure you lay your pcs. in order as you cut them. There was a point where I was confused but if you reach point then just ask on here.

llcathey, The lady at Joann's said they could do any pattern as long as someone put in a special request for it. I want to make a supersized one and use it as a diaper bag. lol

    llcathey,
I just got a call from Joann's. They won't be able to do the class because the pattern is not from there store :-(
I guess I just need to bite the bullet and jump into the pattern. lol

Oops. I'm a bit of a ditz. I start topics, then forget to check them. So sorry - I was not intentionally ignoring you..

I have looked at ehow before, but not for BowTucks. The tutorial for them is on here - QuiltingBoard.com. Just search Bow Tucks in the tutorials. There are more than one, so pick the one that you feel most comfortable with. I chose the one with photos of many of the steps. Good luck and again, please accept my apologies.

The Tropical was a birthday gift this month for my cousin who just returned from Hawaii and wishing she was still there. And the pink one was for my mom for her May birthday because she always wanted to go to Paris. I'm working on a lime green one for my bff's birthday and moving away next week. I'll post that photo when done. It's my favorite, so I bought more fabric to make a matching one for ME (finally). It'll be great for CA beaches!!! Oh, and I omitted the button and used magnetic snaps instead - everyone is happier to be able to get in and out of the tote more easily and quickly.
Oh my - I'm so sorry you had to wait so long for a response. I'm such a scatterbrain sometimes. I start topics, then completely forget to check on them. And I don't get emails saying I have messages either. Anyway, the first couple of times was a bit difficult, but the tutorial with photos of the difficult steps really helped. Now I kind of do things in my own order. I agree, the pocket was mind boggling and it never really said when to attach it. And it never said to sew up the slit in the lining either. Guess they thought we should know that. I did on one, but not the others, thinking that the cardboard lining with sleeve I made would cover it well enough. Then I warned them that it would be better to spot clean than throw in the washer to avoid fraying. Guess I should have used Fray Check, but like I said, I can be scatterbrained, so did not do so. Going forward, I will, however. Good luck - you might get frustrated, but keep at it and you will be pleased with the results. Well worth the efforts and time.

I only put it through the lining - this is sufficient to keep the purse closed. I pull the lining away from the outer bag, hold the magnet washer where I want it, and use a very pointed pencil to draw in the two outer lines. Remove the washer and then take a seam ripper and gently insert it at the end of the lines making a small cut on each penciled line. The prongs do the rest of the cutting when inserting. Don't forget to put the washer on between the lining and the outer bag where it won't be seen. Just be careful with the ripper that you don't cut too much and you will be fine.
