Enjoy the new space! We've torn so many walls down in our house that I don't even remember what it originally looked like.

I had to go up in the attic today to check if it was a load bearing wall.....it is..got a little panicy, but my brother said no problem..I will walk you through it.
Also my sewing room is in the living room. I am trying to move it back some so I do not loose another sewing machine to my labs running around. When the kids get older I will take over the great room off the kitchen...it has a 12 foot window and would fit 2 long arm quilters with room to spare....just don't tell my hubby. I picked this house for a reason. He He

You made me laugh. Anytime I mention taking down any wall, I get the story that it's a load a bearing wall. I swear that according to him, every wall in our house is a load bearing wall.

From what I remember you just need to put in a header to help support the weight. Especially since it's just one stud you're going to take out. It shouldn't be that big of a deal. :>

Yeaaaaaah!!! I did something like that, only it was the bathroom. We bought our 1st house in New Hampshire. It had a nasty PINK bathroom. I didn't want the house because of it, but DH kept telling me about all the great features it had & that we could "change" the pink. The walls were floor to ceiling pink tiles & each fixture was a different color of pink - nasty! After living in the house 3 years, I went into the bathroom after the boys were down for the night. Took the 3 lb, hammer with me. Closed the door & let one swing rip - DH came running in wanting to know what I was doing. "Changing it!" was my reply. I gutted the room and put up new drywall, flooring (1" pink tiles on floor, too), white tub & toilet, wall paper & a blue faux marble vanity after all was finished. Boy, did that feel good!

Good luck with your re-model & enjoy the spaciousness!
