getting ready to quilt this for my daughter. I wish I had prewashed the fabric. I'm afraid now that the home spuns are going to shrink a lot and run . I decided if I do a poly batting that that may help . I was going to do a homespun backing but , the fabric keeps running red. I think muslin would be a smarter choice .
I won't be using that dust ruffle. I just put it on this bed to take a pic

machine pieced with home spun fabrics

Very pretty!!! I love the homespuns but havent made anything with them yet. I have a stack of them just waiting for me to decide what to do with them! :D

I have never used homespuns but Iwould assume they would shrink.

I wash all my fabric before I use it. I am allergic to the dyes and so washing helps.

I am wondering if the polyester batting would be a good idea. It won't shrink and the fabric will. Seems like that would really make it pucker.

make sure you throw in a couple of the fabric dye catchers in its first wash or two... Beautiful pattern and fabric color choices

I love your quilt. Never have used homespuns, but I always wash all fabric and use color catchers when I think they will run - mostly reds, blacks or bright blues. Love that pattern.

No idea about the homespuns, but I have to say I really like your quilt, and the dust ruffle matches lovely to me :D

Mary, here is a link to Synthropol. It will save your quilt! I've used it in the past and cannot live without it. What it does is suspend the migrant dyes that bleed in the wash water and keeps them from redepositing on the lighter colored fabrics. Dharma Trading Co. is extremely reputable and has superb customer service. The small bottle would be perfect and will be at your door in a flash. I've ordered tons of stuff from them and always have it within a day or two.

note: I also have used their Professional Textile Detergent in place of Synthropol and it works just as well.
