Absolutely gorgeous quilt! Don't obsess - if you use a cotton batt and it shrinks WITH the fabric, you'll have a wonderful antique look. If it doesn't shrink, you'll have what you originally expected! And the Synthrapol will save it from running. I swear by it!

A very beatiful quilt but I would not use a poly batting I would go with cottonas that way they can shrink together I would use the fabric dye catchers and put washing instructions on the label to wash in cold water and dry in a cool dryer hope this is helpful to you I love the homespuns and have made 2 quilts with them

any suggestions on quilting this? I'm hoping to start today. I would have liked to have done it by hand , but I don't have time. If I did it by hand I would have done each of the individual diamonds , outlining the shape , and the solid diamonds would have a smaller diamond in the center. But I can't take that much time to do it . I'm not sure stitching in the ditch (cross hatch ) would look very good. I know I don't want a stipple all over effect.
I thought maybe doing the big diamond pattern , but that isn't enough . Any ideas ????
TIA

Ditto about the poly batting, it will not stop the shrinking, it will make it look puffy. I'd go with a needled cotton on something like that, so the eye sees the beauty of your quilt.
As for quilting. You could stitch in the ditch around all of the little diamonds of the very most center, and then as you have the border going around that - stitch in the ditch on both sides of the border. Then measure the distance there, using a quilting foot offset out that distance with your diamonds getting bigger and bigger.
Once you have sewn all that you can stitch in the ditch on all of the the other "diamond borders" Which will tack you down and in, preventing any shifting.
It sounds like a lot of quilting, but it goes quite quickly.
