I try to contain the mess, tidy as I go and do a quick whip round when I'm done for the day. It is helping to tame the chaos and I feel a lot more settled when I sit and sew...I can focus on what I'm doing rather than..."Uh oh...I should be putting that away" or whatever.

I use a basket for any ongoing projects...anything that I did that day goes into the basket...scraps and all...that way at the end of a project all I have is a basket to clean out...bigger craps get cut into appropriate sized squares and filed with other squares the same size in another basket. The key for me is baskets!

The only place I have for my sewing cabinet is in the living room, at the back of the couch. So, there is no hiding any of my messes. I try to clean up between projects, but all I have to cut on is the kitchen table, and it, too, is visible.
When I am working on a project, the living room regrettably, looks like someone blew up a fabric store in there.
My fabrics have to be stowed in storage tubs out in the garage, so when I am searching for a specific piece, it is a major hassle.
I would LOVE to have a room with doors that close, so I could have a living room that looks like one, and a hidden nook for my messes.

Of Course!! But since I got my new sewing space about 2 years ago, I have tried really really hard to keep it neat. Especially since it is my family room and the computers are there also.

I think your sewing room looks perfectly NORMAL! It shows it's used!
