I have never seen one like this before. It looks like it would take 2 people to roll it. Would never work for me -

Our quilting bee uses one like this. Each one of us has one so when it our turn to have our quilt done it's right there at our house where we can work on it all the time. We have nine in our group and we call ourselves Friend 'N Stitches. Each one has two turns on their quilt and some of us are lucky enough to have a completed quilt after we are finished. It would be so great if more quilters could enjoy the company of others while they quilt. We just love it! she

What a treasure to have the quilt frame your grandfather made.

My MIL has a similar one. I know it has been in her family for years. I was just there & now wish I had taken a better look at it!

Yes, My grandfather also made one for my grandmother. In one of my moves my kids did not understand what it was I threw it away. It was made with a hard wood but I believe the dimentions were like 1x 2" then long the we put folded pieces of muslin along the edges this is what the quilt was attached too. these boards were then clamped with C clamps that screwed down. Then it was laid across two ladder back chairs we started to then quilt if there was more than two of us we unfolded it & laid it across 4 chairs. When done we refolded down so it could stand up in a corner but I think she put an old sheet on it first so it would stay clean.
