Mom had one of these when I was growing up. I miss it. Was nice standing in 1 spot on the back porch and just hanging wash out. Much better than those square drying lines w/ center post . Now, in developments, it is not allowed to hang clothes out, but I still do sometimes. Love the fresh smell. Better than dryed in dryer.

Some of us remember hanging our children's cloth diapers on an outdoor clothes line, so do I as it was the only option available back in the 1950's. The down side was that most of us didn't have a washing machine, or weren't allowed to have one in our apartment, boy it wasn't fun washing the diapers of the kids when they were older and eating table foods.

Good job there, hubby. I am sure you are right about amortizing the cost. I loved my clothes line until my DH decided I am too unstable on my feet to use it safely and took it down. (At least that's what he claims.)
