It's hard to believe that's your first quilt. Super job. Not ugly at all.

mary margaret 03-11-2012 05:30 AM

You did a very good job !!! LOVE THE FABRICS !!!!

Caroline S 03-11-2012 05:31 AM

I think that when your quilt top is quilted you won't notice the errors. Often quilting makes the quilt. If you still don't like it you can always donate it. But I do like the pattern with the fabrics and colors you used. Border it with black and red, it should really pop.

Scraps 03-11-2012 05:31 AM

Nice first quilt - like the colors! I can see a bit of red and a bit of black for borders :-)

jodyma 03-11-2012 05:37 AM

Oh my goodness, it's gorgeous. It's just the colors I use in my bedroom so if you want to get rid of it, I will send my address.(lol) Great job!!!!!!!!!

glorcour 03-11-2012 05:40 AM

I love this one and you will love it too. Quilt it and enjoy

xxmbbxx 03-11-2012 05:42 AM

I'm running low on fabric and I don't have much cash to go to the store but I do have a brown and red polka dot fabric and white, so I'm gunna use that as the border. I just need to quilt it now and it will be done. I don't feel like I have enough room though, my sewing machine is basic so the arm is short, and tips on how to keep it from getting to much in my way when I am quilting a section?

GiGi 03-11-2012 06:16 AM

If you aren't happy with it, use it for a backing; that way, you would have a two-sided quilt. Tks. GG

amyjo 03-11-2012 06:18 AM

I think it looks great also. I have had issues with the 1/4" but put a ruler on my machine and taped it down. no more off seams. The colors are great in the quilt.

imnywoman 03-11-2012 06:25 AM

What?? It's a really nice quilt with good colors and great motion. The big picture doesn't really show the flaws like your closeups do. I think once you quilt it with more motion no one will notice the mismatches, only you and we all know that the first thing we do is focus on looking for our mistakes. Lovely, please finish and post the photos.

DebbE 03-11-2012 06:27 AM

Quilting is a process -- I looked back on past quilts and see the huge amount of progress I've made in skills, color selection, etc. I really like your quilt - what a great first quilt! Congratulations! Be proud of your work, as its a beautiful quilt.

zennia 03-11-2012 06:29 AM

I do not see a thing wrong with it. Pretty.

Grace MooreLinker 03-11-2012 06:33 AM

this is great looks pretty to me, but flying geese are hard to make for me also. Haven't found a easy way to make them.

hairquilt 03-11-2012 06:37 AM

Ghastly-No way!! It's going to be Wonderful! Scrappy is my very favorite type of quilt Yours looks great! Please post finished quilt! I bet you are going to love it!

jk5602 03-11-2012 06:39 AM

Your color sense is great. Even though there may be some small flaws, some one that isn't a quilter would probably never see them. Great attempt at a challenging pattern.

Phannie1 03-11-2012 06:41 AM

I think it is great. I love the colors and pattern.

newbee 03-11-2012 07:07 AM

I really like your quilt--I think scrappy quilts are the most fun and interesting. Great job!!

charlottemarie 03-11-2012 07:11 AM

That quilt is beautiful, remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You are just tired of all the work, it will be worthwhile when it is finished!

Grinster 03-11-2012 07:15 AM

I think it is awefully wonderful.. It looks awesome and those flying geese look fine to me!

cjackaitlin 03-11-2012 07:17 AM

Don't be sew hard on yourself, this quilt is very nice, perfect no, but who does quilt a perfect one. Your should be proud of this and keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing.

DO-IT-ALL 03-11-2012 07:30 AM

Ok, I want to tell you that my first quilt top was not that intricate. You have accomplished success far beyond what most beginners could achieve. So be proud of your quilt top. And another thing.....when I have mistakes that show....corners not meeting together exactly I am Ok with it. When my two daughters look over my accomplishments after I am no longer here they will say,"Look, mom was human, her quilts were not perfect ad she was satisfied with her work". Make sure you sew a label on the back when finished so everyone will know who did it and when, and give it a name. What a beautiful accomplishment !!! Koreen

2manyhobbies 03-11-2012 07:31 AM

Oh posh. It's fun. And who cares if it isn't perfect. Anyone who criticizes can just try to make one of their own. It's not that easy!

KathyKat 03-11-2012 07:43 AM

It's very pretty! Don't sweat the small stuff. Each quilt is a journey that we learn something from. Your quilt is a keeper that will be well loved.

kathdavis 03-11-2012 07:47 AM

I love the quilt. Have you tried the one seam flying geese? They are wonderful and fast. You use a little more fabric but worth it because of the time you save.

Norad 03-11-2012 07:48 AM

I like this top, I would finish it. If you don't like it, why don't you sell it? I'm very sure it would sell. Good job.

Northquilter 03-11-2012 07:50 AM

When I read you description, I was expecting an UGLY quilt. I was shocked to see what you consider "ugly". That is very pretty!!! When you quilt the top, the mismatch spots will disappear in the "quilting ditches". Be PROUD of your accomplishment...all of us quilters would like to have our first top or second, third...be "perfect" but then we don't have the excuse that we need to practice more, more, more, shop, shop, collect fabric, I need this fabric-it's perfect for my stash for someday..........Pat yourself on your back! my top is ready for the quilter--YEAAAA

Gabrielle's Mimi 03-11-2012 07:53 AM

You are being WAY TOO HARD on yourself...the quilt top is gorgeous! You have a wonderful play of lights and darks, so important in a quilt. I love the reds and charcoals...stunning. Often we just get a bit tired of looking at a project. Get it quilted and bound and it may even turn out to be a favorite.

BuzzinBumble 03-11-2012 07:54 AM

Did you forget to post the pictures of your ghastly quilt top? Hee hee. Cause all I see here is a simply beautiful quilt! What a wonderful combination of fabrics and design! Perhaps you've just been looking at it too long and it has lost it's fresh appeal to you. Trust us all here: that a terrific quilt!

babyfireo4 03-11-2012 08:00 AM

What a great quilt! It looks way better than my first one! Your color choice is really good because it gives some beautiful movement to it. It may not hold up to the quilt police, but in my experience no quilt does beginner or advanced!!!! You did a wonderful job and maybe the next one you make will be the one you LOVE :)
Happy Quilting,
Mal

w7sue 03-11-2012 08:25 AM

It's a beautiful first quilt - think of everything you learned making it - finish it up and use it. Years from now you can look at it and see how much your quilting skills have improved. We all made a first quilt that wasn't the greatest, but they are still well loved and used.

jbrother 03-11-2012 08:29 AM

I think this quilt is lovely. All it will take to make it spectacular, color-wise, is your choice of border and binding fabrics. Those choices will pull it together. Yes, your quilt is not perfect from a piecing standpoint, but it was a learning experience and will make a lovely bedquilt or hanging.

tslowery 03-11-2012 08:43 AM

I think it looks great.

PattyH 03-11-2012 09:02 AM

I don't think it's ghastly at all. Love the colors. You, like me, just need to be able to match your seams a little better. That's a problem I am trying to get better at solving!

xxmbbxx 03-11-2012 09:11 AM

Oyi! This quilt will be the death of me! Lol, I just want to be done already. Im not even binding it, Im just doing the inside out method or whatever you call it.

feffertim 03-11-2012 09:27 AM

I think it is beautiful. Very ambitious for a first quilt. I think you did an awesome job and i love the color combination.

showmehow 03-11-2012 09:36 AM

Well I like it alot, you did just fine, Id be proud of it.

GloriaC 03-11-2012 09:51 AM
